Battery for 123d

Post by wambam87 » Thu Oct 11, 2018 10:17 am

Hi peeps

Ive recently been nursing my battery putting off getting a new one. However the past week has seen a drop in temps overnight and each morning the car has re-set the clock and other items. So its time to finally get a new one, Firstly what battery SHOULD be on my car as my start-stop has never worked since owning the car ( not a bad thing in my eyes) which may point to why it isnt possibly.

Battery Fitted to mine = Genuine BMW VRLA/AGM 12v 80ah 800A 800cca
Suggested battery to fit to mine on several websites is a = AGM 12c 95ah 790A 859cca

Any pointers would be fantastic as you all know these batteries arnt cheap!

How old is the car ?
If its likely to be the original battery I would suggest fitting the same size again as that will just need registering to the vehicle. If you change battery size further coding work is required.

Yours is likely to be a 019...I think. I think that's what I fitted to a relative's 123 a couple of years ago. It's an AGM, which is important if you have start/stop. The specs you quote are close: slightly more powerful than the one fitted. Speccing up is not a bad thing.

Whatever you buy, you'll need to get it coded to the car...consequently, getting an identical spec may not be is not absolutely essential.

I have bought from Tayna a few times and most recently Batterymegastore (£40 cheaper than anywhere else for a high spec branded battery for my Shogun).
Now in a 2008 E81 130i, previously 5 years in a 2010 E82 135i.

tayna.co.uk have a 019 AGM however its a 95ah not a 80 for £149 , but a friend has a halfords card and i can get a YUASA AGM one that matches all the specs my current one has for £140. so think its the YUASA !

Cheers peeps for the help
