Valvetronic Servo Replacement Cost (N55 135i)

Post by Rubix_Cube » Tue Oct 16, 2018 6:55 pm

Guys, had my 135i for around 1 week. Been great and drives well. I was about to setup MHD Stage 1 when I went to check the DME codes I found that it had 2DD6 and 2DD8 error codes that relate to the valvetronic servo. The car seems to drive well but before I go modding I want to get it 100%.

Given the car has a full BMW service history, this is a bit of a bummer.

Can anyone shed some light on the rough costs to replace this at a dealer or specialist independent?

Valvetronic motor and fitting cost me just shy of a 1-er
(£1k)

First thing i would do is clear the codes and see if they return, could be an old code ? i know on my old n55 135i i had a valvetronic error code come up once, i cleared it and it never returned, worth a go.

Tried to clear them once, will give it another go when I get a chance. I do get an odd clicking noise from time to time.

My car is due a vehicle check in 1000miles, I might put it in early and get them to try and "reset" it.

If I have to replace the parts, I will but man it sucks. Do you think BMW would provide any discount considering the car has a full dealer history even with it having 74k miles.

Ah ok if error didnt clear or returned straight after then sounds like motor needs changing, i doubt bmw would offer any payment unless you have full warranty with them, after all its just worn and has done 73k miles and a good few years old, you can ask though maybe you get a good will gesture discount :)

Have you got a BMW warranty...or any other insurance warranty?

Get a price from a specialist like BW Chiptune before opening negotiations with a main dealer; they'll charge you a few grams of flesh before they tell you what's wrong.

I was offered a 'goodwill gesture' by the dealership (for something unrelated to this) and yet their quote was still £hundreds more than getting the job done by a proficient independent garage.

2010 E82 135i - now sold

No warranty as it was a private sale. There is a local indie I might consider but after looking on YouTube/Google it appears like a pretty tricky job requiring BMW specialist tools.

I think I know someone who is friends with a tech at my local dealer so I'm going to try and see if they can help me out with getting it sorted quickly. Cost is just the killer, both parts are 250ish and 750ish. Hoping it's just the motor (cheaper part) but can't guarantee it. I'll clean the connector later this week, clear codes and try again.
