i can assist with the coding.

You could also just change the headiunit to a later unit with BT & USB built in but they will need coding with an ICOM interface, which I have.
Thanks mate, any idea where the best place to buy a mulf2 Hi would be? Once installed I’ll be dropping you a message for coding for sure

I had to do this on mine (2006 car) - software revision went from 6975013 to 9205946 - took about half an hour with WinKFP and I had a power supply hooked up to my car as I didn't want to risk failure if the battery got too low. Alternatively you could swap the head unit for a later lci model instead.
Thanks for that I’ll keep that in mind, hopefully it’s something wibbles will be able to code as well!

Another update my audio keeps skipping from the stereo, any source - have tried aux and radio, both doing the same. Could this be linked?

E87 oem USB retrofit

Post by S44mvp » Sat Jun 09, 2018 8:08 pm

So never did update, the audio skipping was also caused by the faulty mulf, I unplugged it and it stopped. It’s been unplugged ever since.

I’ve recently stripped down the mulf unit and found water ingress, no signs of corrosion or burnt out contacts or chips etc. I cleaned the circuit board with some electrical cleaner and compressed air but no joy, suspect a chip is dead or something.

Anyway, back to mulf2 upgrade so I can regain BT and add USB. Has anyone swapped the mulf plugs on the loom when upgrading to mulf2?

Mulf - white
Mulf2 - blue

As far as I’m aware my current loom plug won’t plug into a mulf2

Isn’t it easier to buy a newer head unit with the bt &usb built into it, avoiding the need for a MULF all together, then install a mic and the usb from that? They are normally about £250 on eBay plus the mic and usb bit from Cotswolds.

Sam, I’ve got the coding cable and software if you need it.

Easier but more expense I think mate, still an option though!
