135i Performance Power Kit

Post by RyanT » Sat Feb 17, 2018 3:49 pm

So i'm thinking of getting this installed, mainly to remove the throttle lag, but not sure whether to take the BMW route or get Wibbles to install it..

The BMW cost is over 5 times greater and i'm struggling to justify it, but at the same time I wanted to keep everything on this car OEM :? :?

Wibbles job surely. It will still be an OEM developed kit, just installed by someone who actually cares.

I wouldn't bother, use MHD and be happy :D

throttle lag in D I think he means

Wibbles and MHD depends on the year, if you've got the late N55 with encrypted ECU neither Wibbles or MHD can be installed although there seems to be some confusion as to whether MHD have achieved this yet

OP - throttle response much sharper with Sport button pressed no ?

How much did BMW quote you out of interest ?

I got my Power Kit done by Wibbles, fraction of the price compared to BMW. It is still the official BMW Powerkit just Wibbles codes it to your car instead of BMW dealer. There is a guy in the US that got hold of the Power Kit file and put it on a forum (think it's on n54tech or 1addicts).

PPK is worth it just for the pops & burbles you get.

What differences did you notice after installation of the PPK ?

It adds 20Hp and 50Nm, on my first drive after I really could feel the extra torque.

Yep it's the throttle lag in D that's annoying, especially as I've only owned the car since the beginning of winter, pulling out of junctions with the throttle lag and then the TC kicking in when you press down harder = the slowest of getaways!

Although as soon as the engine is warmed up it goes straight into manual/sport which is much better

The only reason I’ve not decided what route to take yet it because I’m shortly going to be selling my 118D, which has loads of aftermarket modifications which is going to make it a hell of a lot harder to sell and I don’t fancy the hassle in the future again. If I was buying a 135i I know I’d rather choose the one which was done by BMW, even though I know it’s the exact same map and how good Wibbles is

Mr RyanT, I would have thought that the fact that you are proposing to have the 'BMWPPK' map installed, pretty much any buyer will know that it's a BMW upgrade. The fact that you had it done by a specialist would be of little consequence: a BMW developed product should be attractive (a positive selling point), rather than a reason to avoid.

I'd use Wibbles...

Just out of interest, if you don’t mind saying, how much is the power pack from both BMW and Wibbles?

Have been considering it, but unsure on price and haven’t really enquiried about it.

I had my dme updated at Grosvenor in Reading to solve a reacuring valvetronic code and it totally solved my throttle lag issue at short or slow rolling stops. Was only £70

I’d be interested to know this as well especially the BMW price as Wibbles can’t do mine as it’s a 2013
