130i E87 stereo issue

Post by parody » Fri Mar 02, 2018 8:00 pm

Evening chaps.

I will soon be the proud owner of a nicely specced 125d... which means my 130i will be on it's way to another owner.

In preparation I've been resolving a few issues I've chosen to live with (why is it I always wait until selling so someone else benefits...)

Ages ago the bluetooth stopped working and the audio from radio and parking sensors became intermittent. Is there any way I can diagnose if this is the bluetooth module at fault or amplifier or something else without having to lay out £££ replacing them all in turn? The BT MULF module with same part number seems to go for about £200 but I see other with different part number listed for the same model for much less - are the interchangeable? Can I remove the BT module and connect the two optical cables together and just not have BT (assuming that is the root of the issue)?

Thanks!

With regards to the radio, does it still power up? If it was intimitant, is the radio connection at the back ok and getting power. Wires and fuses would be my first port of call rather than spending £££
Now: 2006 130i with even more goodies ;)
Gone: 2008 116i with goodies :)

Hi, yeah the radio itself powers on, I can change radio station and navigate the menus as if there were sound coming out.

Tomorrow I’m going to unplug the Bluetooth module and see if I can straight-through the optical connectors or something, simulating it not being there. I have no idea if I should expect that to work or not!

If anyone else hits this issue I found a place in UK hat repairs the MuLF, apparently caused by bad solder:

Alternatively you can indeed loop the optical connectors with an adapter from your favourite auction site.

 How muuuuuuch!??

I have those optical loop things. Where do I plug them in? So I can make sure it is the BT Mulf before spending an astronomical amount of money to repair a bit of bad solder.
