123d dynoing at 177bhp

Post by ben123d » Thu Jun 21, 2018 8:11 pm

Following a run on the dyno, my 123d is said to be running at 177bhp, which is quite a step down from the stock horse power.

Other than the dyno not being completely accurate (albeit it can’t be that bad!), what might be causing a lack of power?

The dpf was read reading low, so it’s not blocked.

Service the car every 12 months and do less than 10,000 Miles a year.

My thinking is to start replacing some hoses if I’m loosing boost through perished piping or possibly the accuator (s) are sticking? EGR valve blocked and thus engine isn’t breathing properly. Not noticed any flat spots whilst accelerating in low or high gears.

Any info or advice would be highly appreciated.

Cheers

Ben

Sounds about right Ben. They only made a couple of hundred horsepower at the crank when new :)

I've had many of these only making 184bhp as standard

Can you post the dyno graphs
Does the car pull from the start or only from 2300rpm

I had a similar problem but mine was only doing 141BHP

EGR valve has failed and someone had put a blanking plate in the cooler .

Hope to have some updated news soon

Car is a 2008 plate with 101,000 Miles on the clock.

The car feels like it pulls all the way through the Rev range.

I didn’t get the graphs at the time but have chased him up for them and hopefully will get them soon.

141 bhp is pretty bad!

Have you put an EGR valve back on? Or had the engine cleaned out?

If someone had fitted a blanking bungs and no lights or codes have come up then they would of removed codes for the egr

The problem is when the person doing it doesn't know where each code address are so they then turn off all or more codes than needed
This then causes other problems when people are just looking at codes when a engine has issues

If anyone wants to remove the egr I always recommend to set the egr to stay closed all the time in the engine control unit then there is no need to turn off any codes, the dpf will still regen as normal instead of fitting blanks which can then cause more problems when someone then turns off all the codes as ive seen this loads of times

Pick car up toady and it feels a little mental

Custom map all sorted with all of its new bits on its a totally different car now

Low down grunt seems the same but just revs faster and goes mental over 2000 just seems to rev now without any issues

That’s great to hear. Always nice to get to the bottom of something and get it sorted!

Did you find out what the problem was? Was it just down to replacing the EGR or was their some codes needing turning back on / off?

Most importantly, what’s it now putting out on the dyno?!

Cheers

Not Sure on power yet as didn't pick the graph up im off back there in 2 weeks for MOT

From What i can gather it was a very poor map originally on the car , then when the map was tweaked it showed the issues the car had with the blanking plate in the EGR cooler .

now with the new cooler on and valve and mapped to suit the conditions its night and day difference

It’ll be great to see the before and after maps. Out of interest, where did you go for the work?

Could also ask where you got the new EGR valve and cooler?

I used a company called PK Automotive here in Lincoln

BW chiptune was my first port of call but its the distance to Jason that i couldn't do if only he was closer but with his knowledge and experience i should have just gone to him
