BMW E82 125i Short Shift Kit?

Post by Hardybastard » Fri Oct 12, 2018 9:57 am

Hi again,

I'm looking for a Short Shift Kit for my 125i ( manual and RHD).

RealOEM, wrt a SSK, states that there's no parts for my car. I looked at the 130i gearshift parts and the 125i gearshift parts, and some of the parts (for eg: Shifting Arm, reinforced) are different so I'm not willing to chance the 130i SSK - unless someone has done this before and can confirm it works :?

Does anyone know of alternative SSKs for a 125i, and if so, are they a good product? I've read a couple of reviews re the BMW SSK and the product seems to be good.

Thanks!

I’m fairly sure the bmw ssk fits most models! The one for the 130i fitted my 123d

Ok, decided to take a chance and I have ordered these parts:

25 11 0 434 219 Shift lever (<-- updated to correct value)
25 11 1 220 600 Bearing, shift lever
25 11 7 571 899 Securing clip

I'll update this thread with the results (whether I was successful or not) in terms of fitting these!

Looking at the part number on realoem I think you’ve ordered another standard gear lever!
Short shift is 25110434219, says it’s only for the 130i but fits other models

Real OEM suggests 25117551263 is just the standard shift lever??

Think the part you need to try is 25110434219, which is the short shift lever for the 130i.

Coincidentally, I’ve just today fitted the same lever to the 1M (also have it in my 130i). Nothing officially available for the 1M but after having done plenty of research, some measuring and finger crossing I’m very pleased with the results. The best mod you can do to improve a manual E8X car I reckon.

It’s an easy 15 minute DIY on the 130 (and probably 125i) because it can all be done from inside but had to get the M onto ramps and remove some bits from underneath but still only a couple of hours work.

Great to read that Swanny! :spotman:

I was fortunate in that I got to cancel my incorrect order just in time (thanks again to those who spotted my mistake!)....time to order 25110434219 me thinks!

N55, yes since it has the same gearbox as the 1M.
N54, not sure but after everything I’ve read about this topic over the past few weeks I think it would. But please do your own research (the US forums were a great source for me).

Sorry, I should rephrase that to read ‘the best mod you can do to improve the manual shift in an E8x car’.

It takes all the slop and overly long throw out of the shift which makes it far more enjoyable to use. Has a lovely mechanical feel to it so you can sense the gears engaging. Bit of a cliche but it’s now a very snickety gear change.

I absolutely love it, but then I’m an old fart who really enjoys changing gears manually and dislikes the current headlong rush toward auto everything. :D

Haha thanks for the clarification, I understand now. I'm with you on the anti-auto everything mentality! Once I get my current gearbox troubles sorted out I think I'll give it a go.

I'd second this. Fitted one this week. It is night and day compared to stock. The feel is extraordinary and I would go so far as to say best mod after suspension and air-intake.
130i LE 2007. BMWP Air Intake, 135i Brembo Calipers/stoptech street pads. BMWP Pedals, BMWP SSK and handbrake, Upgraded idrive Controller. M3 Suspension refresh front and rear. B12 Kit. M stainless steel exhaust finishers.
