Finally got around to getting things done on the car. I can confirm that these short shifter parts work on the E82 125i :

25 11 0 434 219 Shift lever
25 11 1 220 600 Bearing, shift lever
25 11 7 571 899 Securing clip

1 image includes all 3 parts highlighted above and the other is the old shift lever that was removed. I bloody LOVE it!

BMW E82 125i Short Shift Kit?

Post by Twenny » Sat Dec 22, 2018 11:50 pm

God damn it!!!!

I’ve got no plans to doing anything more to my 125i (apart from a proper remap) and I bloody read this!!!!

Very tempted to order all this right now as the full kit is around £100, is this cheap?

How easy a job is this to do? Any links to a how to?

Or is a SSK instal the same as any other? As there’s loads on You Tube.

* edit - £90 for all 3 parts.

Half hour job, fiddly but not difficult at all. Same as this:

I’d also recommend the gearknob fitted in the above guide, much nicer than stock.

Cheers Swanny! Anyone who is thinking of it - it's definitely worth it. It has put a big smile on my face, it's a class little mod.

So is this dimensionally different on th bottom end?

Ie, pivot point ball to shift lever eye at the end?

Just that the pics above show the OE ball to eye gap to be small, and SSK it’s larger (faster shift)

On the E90 pics the ball to eye distance looks the same.

I prefer the M knob, very nice, had one on my Z4 and it was a transformation all on its own.

Very expensive now though. In 2009 it was £50... I think they’re £80 now?!

I’d have one but mine has alcantara surround so might look a bit iffy with non M-perf knob.

Took this pic when I had three sat on the bench, should give an idea of dimensions.

Kind of shocked that the gear linkage is just a push fit into the bottom of the gear lever from one side. What stops it from just sliding out as the gear lever moves side to side.. obviously it doesn't slip out, but it seems a pretty insecure fixture to me.

I think there’s a PITA circlip that holds it in place!

Correct, the small silver clip shown in Hardybastard’s pic above holds it all together - when fitted correctly there is no chance of things coming apart.
