New car ordered

Post by RichT001 » Wed Oct 09, 2019 6:11 pm

Just ordered an M135i, going into build next week, so I should have it early November. Berry hooked me up with a great deal.

Coming from an X3 M40i, I’ll miss the engine, but 99% of the time, the new car will be just as quick. Why is it that EVERY review of the car compares it to the M140i, and not the A35 or Golf R? Idiots.

I’ve gone for Storm Bay metallic with M135i Plus pack, and Tech pack 1.

Picture will, of course, follow once I have it!

Why are you losing the M40? That’s one of my favourite cars in the current line up.

Congrats on the new car.

I don’t do that many miles in it, and just can’t take any more depreciation tbh. I paid cash for it in July last year, and it’s lost over £23k from new. I didn’t pay full retail price, but BMW depreciation is eye watering. With all of the constant updates, it’s only going to keep going one way.

You're selling an X3 which has already gone through the heaviest period of depreciation, in favour of starting all over again? BMW depreciation on new builds is eye watering.

Hope you can live with this one for a very long time so you get your money's worth.

Yep, I did take that into account, but it’s just going to keep dropping like a stone. I looked at finance figures on M40’s the same age as mine, to get an idea of how much more it will lose, and the GFV in another 2 years from BMW is appalling.

I’m leasing for two years. Straight lease, no PCP. The deal was a no brainer. ;)

How much cheaper is the lease than PCP?

Given that you paid cash, I am surprised you didn't buy a 2-3 year old Golf R or S3 outright. However I understand if you prefer new cars.

Because the M140i has basically been replaced by this car, so it's the natural comparison and one we've been discussing on here too. That doesn't make people idiots.

The very fact it now falls alongside the Golf R is one of the reasons for negative comments. BMW have dropped something people thought was pretty special i.e. a 6 pot RWD hatchback, for what is now run of the mill 4 pot AWD. Once the M140i is 'forgotten' about in the new car world, comparisons will become more appropriate.

Not knocking your purchase, hope you enjoy the car and will be interested to hear what it's like, just explaining to viewpoint of many :) .

I’m not divulging figures on here, but will say that the figures were extremely competitive.

I’m referring to the journos and you tubers. BMW must be livid about all the bad press!

Once the new M140i comes out, I’m sure they’ll all backtrack and say how wonderful it is, and how crap the old version was.

I'm talking about those as well. It's normal for people to compare the new car with the outgoing model.

As a 140 owner, if I was thinking of changing now it's approaching 3 years old, I'd want to know how this compared directly with what I've got, so reviews on YouTube and in the press would be interesting and far from idiotic.

I agree, and idiotic may be a bit harsh. But maybe if they started with saying, don’t compare the engines, as there’s a new M140i on the horizon, then getting on with an independent review, that may have been more helpful to people new to this car.

Not everyone has owned or driven an M140i, so they’re instantly putting those people off before they’ve even started.

Apparently, there is. Something with a mild hybrid, and around 400bhp. I’m sure I read about it on here?

If there is, it won't be called an M140i.
