3 series tyres

Post by Slacky » Sat Jul 14, 2018 11:32 pm

Hey guys

I’m after some new tyres for my 3 series. The backs need replacing due to getting close to the limit sizes are 255/40/18 and front I’ve got a gash in one but could do with some advice if it needs changing or not. Size of front is 225\45\18.

Can any on recommend any decent tyres?

Here’s a picture of the gash the alloy was kerbed bad Image

True sidewall damage is dangerous, but I can't tell if you've damaged the sidewall, or just a Rim Protector Bar? Is it quite deep? If in doubt, chuck it out.

The current go-to tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 4

Are the ps4 run flats? I’ve got run flats on at the minute

Here’s another picture of the gash you should be able to see better

I suspect you've only gouged/torn the RPB, a local tyre centre will be able to give you a more definitive answer though.

Do you actually want Runcraps?

Had the wheel checked at bmw which they said was fine. Priced up to new back tyres £260 each

I can get a set of part worn which are virtually brand new but they are 88y and the ones on the car are 95y. Would this cause any problems?

Could do. What's the minimum it's supposed to have?

I’m not sure if I’m honest. Where could I find that out?

Check the big online tyre suppliers. They won't be near £260.

Personally I wouldn't buy part worn tyres and especially run flats.
