MOT exemption & Tax exemption?

Post by MontegoBlue » Wed Aug 22, 2018 3:04 pm

With my '66 Beetle now MOT exempt (quite wierd to go through this process) but, it's been tax free for a good few years... where do I stand on the process of SORN, do I actually have to do anything now, or doesn't this apply to these vehicles...as it's technically taxed & mot (albeit exempt)

If I understand the guidelines then yes SORN still applies, because although you're not paying for VED, you still have to have it registered.

You wonder what's the point in SORNing if it's free to keep it registered for VED, but if the car is uninsured, it must be categorised as off road and so a SORN must be made.

This is how I understand it, might be wrong though.

If you dont sorn it the continuous insurance requirements still apply. You also need to apply for the exemption if it is in use. You need to tax it even though the anount is zero.

Ah yeah that makes sense on the insurance part, didn't actually think of that part.
