Thanks Gary. It's the first brand new car I've owned.

I'm overwhelmed how progressive this car is over my other. The handling is hugely improved and actually very involving. Sports Diff is great and feels natural and nimble. Cabin and virtual cockpit are sublime.

I got 16mpg average yesterday so I reluctantly drove in efficiency mode today. I did an urban run and managed 30mpg which isn't so bad.

Sound is great, love how it can be both loud and quiet whenever you like. Pops and crackles too if you fancy it.

Launch control is savage. When it upshifts into 2nd and 3rd it feels like another launch it's pretty violent lol great stuff.

Great car!

Enjoy your new motor, Oliver! :)

I never liked virtual cockpits, but the one in your car looks good.

I bet the old girl will never get driven now.

You should find the MPG will improve with time. I have done 2250 miles in mine at an average of 29.6 mpg which is higher than my M235i however waaaaaay more motorway miles which probably explains why.

I've noticed on short journeys the MPG is worse than the Beemer with my local 5 mile round trip to the gym and back coming in at 18mpg vs 20-22mpg on the Beemer however have managed 35-38mpg on longer runs which is around the same. I use efficiency mode on the motorway which is far better than Eco Pro in terms of not cutting all the power however i'm not convinced it saves fuel (same can be said for eco pro to be fair) I tend to leave the car in Dynamic mode as no issues with traction to worry about and the engine sounds so good when revved!

Semerka, I actually drove the diesel yesterday because it has winter tyres on. I love that car it just keeps on going and going. Feels really sloppy in comparison to the S4 but the power delivery is like a train! The DPF delete worked wonders. It feels fast and relentless.

The virtual cockpit is awesome I really can't fault it. It doesn't distract you at all, it's super sharp and quick to react. You can also click "view" and it changes to a full tachometer/speedo with turbo boost gauge!

I've linked the MMI to my phone so I can track where the car is on GPS. You can also check oil level, fuel level, lock doors, receive alarm notifications etc. Mental!

Gary, I was driving it in manual dynamic mode the whole time so yeah the fuel consumption was ridiculous. I've calmed down a little bit now lol

Efficiency mode just changes up gears as soon as possible and uses start/stop. It also tells you to take foot off accelerator on downhill sections which is pretty obvious!! It's nice to pick and choose your moments to engage dynamic. Yeah efficiency doesn't cut power it just chooses a big cog which almost feels like coasting. You can get out of junctions quick enough, it doesn't feel hesitant.

Yeah the sound is awesome. You can hear the crackles and pops more with the windows closed which is quite odd. It doesn't have electric simulated sound either, it's the real deal!

Be honest though, it would be better with a cheeky remap. It's fast but it's not crazy fast, there's still some hesitation. Stage 1 remap would be ideal.

Stage 2 B8 3.0 TDI Avant and B9 S4 Avant

TDI is on winter wheels. 120,000 miles and strong. It's not actually much slower than the S4.

Not been round the forum in a while.

I went to Tesla yesterday for a test drive in a Model X P100D. It’s around 750bhp. Just for a laugh.

Guys petrol is dead!

Never felt anything like it!! The most savage acceleration I have ever felt. If the future is going electric then don’t worry, it’s bloody incredible power!!!!

Almost sold my S4 immediately.

If you haven’t test driven a Tesla, do it! Takes 30 seconds to book a test drive. When they call you INSIST you want to test drive a Model S P100D or Model X P100D. Don’t test drive the normal version....go ludicrous!!

I'll stick with my diesel........

I've tried electric cars and although the performance is well up there, you have all the expense, hassle and time wasted in charging the damn things.

Fuel-cell technology is probably a more viable bet - maybe I'll review in another 5 years or so.

Electrics are only really viable for shopping cars or granny scooters at the moment.

Hi mate how are you doing?

Have you driven a P100D? Insanity. I can’t even compare the power delivery to any other vehicle let alone another car. I can’t think of any time I’ve felt acceleration so brutal.

32Amp breaker single phase will charge the car quick enough at home. Three phase power is rapid. Superchargers are incredibly fast.

I’m a petrolhead and I love combustion cars but
this was absolutely mind blowing power.

Hi Oliver,

I'm fine thanks, still with the same car we last met, no plans to change really.

I've not tried any Tesla (there's a dealer nearby) and whereas I appreciate that they are top of the pile currently on range and speed of charging people rarely taken to account of the actual cost of re-charging (unless somebody else is paying...).

The questions that you need to ask is "how many kilowatts of power is needed for a full charge"? Then work out how much it really costs to "fill up". And will it do a 400 mile trip without the need for any breaks.

A Supercharger just cuts down the waiting time (thankfully). Then there's the unknown questions of how long do the battery systems last - I would expect for at least 10 years but by then they would be woefully out of date.

My car will be 10 years old this September and it still runs as good as new and thankfully I don't have any nanny toys like "driving modes", speed limiters or lane change warnings. I tried a new BM (nothing special) last year and once I'd got it into "sport" (because it was really naff below that), I spent the most of the rest of my time with it turning off head-up, lane warning and adjusting speed warnings - it just drove me nuts.

Hello all!

Tell me about Barrie....my S4 like to slam the brakes on completely without warning sometimes.

I hate any driver interference.

Basically at 18mpg and 10,000 miles a year. My fuel is over £3000 a year. The electricity cost for 10,000 miles is £436. That’s at a standard 15p EON rate. It would be half that for economy 7.

Even if you double, triple, or quadruple the price of electricity it’s still waaaaaaaay cheaper than petrol.

Just a shame the cars are so expensive because they are absolute weapons!! Unbelievable power.
