2006 e87 sound extremely quiet and crackling

Post by olduser »

I have stumbled onto this forum a couple days ago and have been reading all the Audio-issues post about these cars -and to my big suprise-, i got an issue that seems to be unprecedented. :o

Registered to be able to explain a certain problem, in the hopes the issue does sound familiar to someone.
Fyi - the local all-around garage has no clue.

The car: 2006 e87 with the options '676 Hifi Loudspeaker System', '606 Navigation System Business' as well as the '672 Cd Changer Bmw For 6 Cds'.

The actual issue: there is no sound.
Well, what i actually mean is, with the volume on max, and no environment sounds, i can just barely hear the radio's output, coming from the rear speakers. Even though it's outputting very quietly, it's a distorted/crackling sound, but still clear enough to hear someone talk on the radio, and understand.
The front speakers don't seem to give any output.
The rear-parking sensors don't give beeps anymore either.

Now as being a new father, i cannot sent this older car to the official dealer, and have started a micro-research of my own.
I took out the radio, checked cable connections back there, seems ok to my little knowledge.
Then got a cable to use INPA, read these reachable modules:
MASK: 0 codes.
Audio CD Changer: 0 codes
Audio System Controller CCC: 0 codes
Top hifi-amplifier: not reachable ( Maybe the car has no amplifier, and this is normal )

Aside from the no volume output, other systems are operational:
Screen
Idrive system
Parking sensors
AUX input
CD Changer

Maybe someone has already experienced or heard about these symptoms and could give a push in the right direction - that would be appreciated.
Thank you all for reading,

There should be an amplifier behind the boot trim on the passenger side, I’m guessing yours is faulty/water damaged/blown a fuse.

Alright i couldn't get to that spot in the dark anymore yesterday, tried to read the Amp through INPA again but no success.
Got freezing temperatures since today, hope i can follow your advise soon. Tbc

This ‘how to’ shows the way to remove the boot trims:

Update for other searchers who might be interested.
Fuse OK
No water damage, amp looks in great condition from the outside.
Part no is 6952630, got a used one coming from Ebay, hopefully in by the end of the week.

Edit: Part already came, sound came back instantly.
Thanks Marco Polo for the correct distance-diagnosis :!:
