F20 Satnav Retrofit

Post by drumandbass » Tue Sep 26, 2017 4:52 pm

Hi there, first post been stalking the place a while..

Picking up my 120D Xdrive tomorrow, made the choice for leather interior over sat nav.. think it's the 6.5inch screen.

How easy is it to retrofit the BMW sat nav upgrade? Or am I better off ripping it all out and using an aftermarket system..

Money isn't really the issue but want it to be decent - I had an Audi A3 before and I hated my retrofitted system. But that was many moons ago..

Any help/input very much appreciated.

Hi Drum,

I have a 2012 BMW 1 series F20 with the standard radio / cd no Nav. I do have Bluetooth (Not enhanced), aux and usb input.

I will be carrying out a retrofit of my current system within the next week or so, I currently have HU_ENTRY I will be replacing that with HU_ENTRYNAV.

The things you need...

HU_ENTRYNAV or NBT or NBT EVO Unit

L7 6.5 CID or 8.8 inch screen

Idrive controller (a Touch control emulator is needed to enable touch functionality if you buy the touch controller)

FAKRA GPS Antenna - plugs straight into the HU and can be placed behind the screen display with sticky tape etc...

NBT Nav / Voice control Emulator - Plug and Play straight into the hu (look at an image of the product it will make sense) this is to enable NAV

You will then need to hook it all up, everything is plug and play to this point. These is a video on youtube (type NBT retrofit - the youtubers account is "Omaar" I think.

Once you successfully plug it all in you will then need to code the unit to the car, a regular E-Sys car coder can do this or you can do it yourself providing you have E-net cable and E-Sys software. This is to make the car communicate with the HU and enable NAV features etc etc.

Total cost for me to date inc all of the above is around £280. I have managed to find a bargain L7 CID 6.5 screen and HU_ENTRYNAV unit.

Emulator for NAV is around £120 on ebay but if you buy from Aliexpress it is no more than £30 inc delivery

Fakra GPS Antenna cost me £6 inc delivery off ebay.

Coding the system cost me £75

Head unit
Screen
Controller
£150

I hope this helps.

Yes mate very helpful.

I'm not 100% sure on what I have currently, will post pics etc and I can do most/all the work myself as I work in the motor trade anyway.

The only thing I doubt I could do is the coding as I work with Bosch KTS systems, the coding is a bit lacking but I have a friend who should be able to help.

Yeah that's what I've done mate, I'm able to connect it all up but my knowledge lacks when VO coding etc.

I purchased Bimmercode and can code absolutely almost everything but to enable NAV I need to go to someone who can code code via E-Sys.

All the best with the Retrofit, I will be doing mine in the next week or so, just waiting for my emulator to arrive. (Cina EMS  )

Any questions mate you can message me anytime.

Hi, I’ve got a 114D F20. Been to get a satnav & screen fitted but the car isn’t compatible with the sat nav system, couldn’t even get the full list up only got about five drop down menus which were radio & the cars setting etc. Has anyone else had this fitted in a 114D?

Mines a 2015 unit and the Nav worked straight away with the emulator.

Is it greyed out on the menu or just not there at all?

Is the unit definitely a Nav unit?

Yeah it’s definitely a nav unit. There were no options at, not even greyed out. & I’m not sure if it’s a NBT or business nav. Will it say anything on the headunit? I could post a picture on everything on the back if you like?

Post the unit including part numbers.

Your emulator.

The idrive menu screen etc.

Seems very odd to be honest

I didn't take any photos as i took it to a BMW specialist & he did it all. The setting I could see was RADIO-Vehicle Info-Settings-Connected drive but there were nothing in the connected drive part. He was confused to, he said it could be the cluster or something? But then he said the car was a fairly high spec when he looked at the potential upgrades which I could have. He said he is speaking with people he knows at BMW to see what it could be & getting back to me but i thought along it was a straight system swap it would be okay. I'm assuming he used a emulator but not 100%. This is what I'm trying to fit.

That’s the correct unit but are you using the emulator with it?also when coding did you remove the original 663 option when adding 606?mine done the same when I forgot to remove 663 ie no navigation and only 5 drop down lists......

I haven’t a clue what he did, I thought it was just because I had a low spec car but he said it’s not that. I’ll ring him first thing Monday morning & ask if he did those things & used an emulator! I’ll get back to you Monday morning see what he says. Thank you!
