I also mentioned about noise and the adjustable bushes but he reported they were ok, do you think they’ve be worse than camber plates?

Speed bump info is useful, it’s the ones that raise in the middle that have caught me out before and they’re a nightmare if you have to go round them.
Bushes - interesting-probably more likely to be ploy-bushings instead of monoball type bushes which are stiffer / more solid. The latter will make NVH more noticeable / probable.

Got lots of the middle bumps near me too and I know exactly what you mean !!!

Yes, he mentioned there were two type: road and race.

Doing a bit of reading on the adjustable bushes and apparently there’s 1 degrees worth of adjustment which would be more than enough with the LCA’s:)

Is that -1 degree though? Or +0.5 to -0.5?

-1 seems a lot for just an adjustable bush?

Polybushes ie whiteline/S'pro/P'flex have a total of <1 deg adjustment ie as MP states above -0.5 to +0.5.

The other more pricey alternative [recommended to me by a number of different suspension setup specialists ie Center Gravity] is K mac bushes which have mucher greater range of adjustment - see page 10-13 in the attached PDF

Best to discuss with K Mac directly to ensure you know what to buy etc...

Just a note from experience.

I'd avoid Litchfield for mapping on a BMW. Mine came with a Litchfield Mapped cobb on it and I've taken it off to get wedge to do it through mhd.
The Litchfield map was just dangerous. On a WOT run it was knocking/Detling so much the ecu was pulling 8deg of ignition timing out to try and keep it safe. Should NEVER have left Litchfield like that - they told the previous owner it was just because it was a hot day. Did the same in the middle of winter too.....

That’s very disappointing, there’s always the chance that something may have changed or failed on the car to cause the knocking, difficult to tell but thanks for your post.

He never got back to me anyway, I kind of thought he might not but nevermind. Maybe it’ll jog his memory when I turn up to one of his sprints in the ugly 1 and make some progress against his silly money GTR builds lol!

Life is very difficult sometimes.

Me and my much better half were looking at property and getting excited about our future.

Without going into too much detail she suffered from a very rare disease that basically killed her, has been in hospital for the last 2 weeks and has had life saving surgery. I can’t describe how grateful I am for the care we’ve had from the wonderful staff at Kings.

Things will be different for us now but she’s slowly waking up and doing incredibly well. Not out the woods yet but in such a better place than we were and everything is so positive.

I will be taking nothing for granted now. When, not if, she makes her full recovery we shall be like born again hedonists!!!

To try to relieve my mind I’ve been looking more at modifying the 1, thinking the following:
Sports cat
Intercooler
H and r -15 mm springs
Either adjustable bushes for camber or camber plates. If going for plates I could put the stock lower arms back on which would help with ride height at front and give more room for bigger wheels. Any opinions on this?
Remap or JB4 but thinking remap probably better?

Would this give 400 plus bhp and silly torque if my car is PWG?

Any recommendations where I could all of this work done at once?

I’ve also been in touch with the team that won the Bathurst 6 hour endurance race in their m135i. They’ve given me some priceless info on oil surge and cooling - basically we have nothing whatsoever to worry about - but I’ll make a separate thread and try to get one of the mods to make it sticky.

Wishing everyone good health and happiness :)

Sam

Sam,

FYI - spoke to Litchfield directly just now. Other than AST adjustable drop links and camber plates - sold as add-ons to their AST c/overs, they don't do any bush upgrades for the F8x front arms.

Was going to say why limit yourself with bushes when plates are going to be the same money, if anything Id go further with the front camber on mine if I could :)

Yes I think I’ll probably go with plates and just keep fingers crossed it’s not too noisy.

I was in touch with BM specialists yesterday and they seem to have a pretty good knowledge of the n54 and n55. The guy I spoke to has the n55 in his 3 series with over 100k miles. It’s been running 420 - 600 bhp for years :)

They reckon my PWG should make well over 400bhp with temps intercooler and decat which would be nice. They said it doesn’t really make much difference between EWG/PWG.

They also seem clued up on suspension. They use camber plates I’ve not heard of before but are going to put a quote together for plates, anti roll bars, springs plus the above tuning. They will can also put a bigger turbo on for 500 plus which I will ask them for a price on too.

Will see if they get back to me, they have a lot of good reviews but anyone here have any experience to share?
