Is it legal to put the wrong model badge on my car?

Post by nastypoker » Thu Jul 04, 2019 10:29 am

I was planning to just debadge my m135i but the idea of putting a 114d badge on the back makes me happy.

I just don't want any legal hassles if I get pulled over.

I suppose there is a miniscule chance it might lead to a pull should a very very bored cop happen to do a vehicle check and notice the difference.

Do you really want people to think that you have done an 114i conversion. Only tails convert a 114i to an m135i so people who know what an M car looks like will immediately think

TAIL!!!

Unless it’s just for a joke and a laugh.?

Yeah mostly for a laugh. Less likely to be stolen maybe?

The m135i is already super subtle. 99% of people don't realise what it is until they hear it with my foot down

In all honesty I think it’s funny. People take them selves too seriously these days. Go the whole hog and chuck a VW badge on the back lol

Have you thought about going down this route, I mean I know it’s a van but you could probably do the same to a car, 1 it would never get nicked, 2 it would protect the paint and 3 imagine their surprise when they get beat by a dog

There's a smart car I see wheezing around near me that's entirely covered in astroturf, not sure if that's any better than the dog!

Edit: pic, without the logos plastered all over it!

I don't recall BMW ever making a 114i M Sport, so that could be a bit of a give-away.

I've considered a 116i badge to go with a single exit (custom lightweight race) exhaust conversion in the past, but never did anything about either.
