Track Days 2021

Post by Losichu »

Now that I'm almost done modifying my somewhat inexpensive 118d, I'd like to take it to a track day. I've only been to a track day once in my life, and it was the Nurburgring on my VFR800, 1 lap, and I thought I was going to be killed, didn't realize just how slow I would be compared to the regulars. Barring any COVID issues, are there any good tracks/track day companies that folks would recommend for a novice once things open back up? I know how to drive, just haven't ever driven on a race track.

I've used Javelin for my recent track days. Very well run days, driving standards are good too. There are others out there, just do a bit of googling and you'll find loads. Just don't go through a third party, always book direct with the track day organiser. Javelin do novice days though so look out for those: basically 20 min sessions every hour.

Another one here who suggests Bedford.

Lots of run off and not many barriers make it a brilliant novice track. It was my one and only experience and enjoyed it very much.

Yes Bedford is a good idea to start with.
I personnaly don't use it anymore as I cook my brakes there for some reason. And once you've done the tracks with elevation changes then it's hard to go back to something a little feature less, but I digress.

Circuit-Days are a good outfit, also MSV and Javelin as stated before.

Oulton Park, Donnington, Angelsey, Cadwell, (to name but a few) are all very good tracks.

Another vote for Bedford as your first track.
Very little to hit when your talent runs out.
Only issue I found was as it’s so flat and featureless you can sometimes lose where you are on the track when your on the largest of the configurations.
As mentioned above, do your homework on the organiser, the biggest problem can be the other drivers.
Had a day where four lads had hired two Mini’s and ragged the bejesus out of them all day. They were on the track all the time so it was a nightmare. I lost the plot when one of them undertook me on the inside, under braking, at a corner and his mate overtook me on the grass at the same time.
A few people complained and the organisers removed them until lunchtime then they came back for the afternoon.
Got my money back after complaining but after that experience I always payed the extra for a decent track day provider.
Bookatrack was good back then, think they’re called want2race now(?) although that name doesn’t fill me with confidence for a track day provider! Lol

I've used Javelin, they are a professional outfit and I would recommend them.

What are people booked onto this year? Would be interesting to see if anyone is attending sessions I'm booked onto.

Thruxton 19/04. Silverstone 02/11. Oulton 10/11.

Will book one or two more in between but that's my lot for the year.
