My guess is one or more coil packs are faulty. Common on the petrols.

Bad enough but at least it hasn’t snapped.

2006 bmw 116i 88,000 miles engine running very rough

Post by rsrizahotmail.co.uk » Tue Jul 09, 2019 4:00 pm

hi everyone i need some ideas please, my 116i bmw is running very rough engine misfiring, i took plugs out all very black, checked coils and all is good checked plugs all firing good checked engine pressure pushing 185 all cylinders, this started when my daughter took car for nite at pics, they put petrol in on way to cinema after pics the car drove for a mile and all this started, could they have put diesel instead of petrol, could this cause the engine running like it wants to get out and walk.

You'll struggle to get a big diesel nozzle into a tiny petrol filler neck.

You certainly couldn't do it easily/without noticing, they're specifically designed to be incompatible, but I guess it's not impossible if they tried hard enough??

The filling station receipt should state what fuel they bought.

thanks for your replies but i have already checked coil plugs and all working good, did compression test all pressure good the spark plugs working good all checked someone must have an idea on how to fix it.
if the timing has jumped would the engine miss, the car starts on the button but runs like pig missing and backfiring, so has anyone had this problem
and how did you cure it.
anyone please help

Sounds like the timing chain has jumped a tooth or two.

No, not for a tooth or two, which is quite common. You'll just get really rough running, and no power/revs.

If the chain snaps completely, that will bend the valves.
