1 Series Hum

Post by ADAMS » Thu Jun 07, 2018 10:16 pm

I still can't seem to solve the hum my car makes, had 4 new tyres and changed both front wheel bearings... and it is still there

I'm confused by it, as you increase in speed in gets louder which makes sense.... but if your on a ultra smooth surface its hardly noticeable no matter what speed.

Any idea's would be appreciated as I'm giving up lol!

Thanks

What model are you driving? Age? Mileage? Why not add some car details to your signature to save us asking every time? :)

2009 120D m sport with 88000 on the clock :D

Definitely not down too road noise as the car never made the noise when i first purchased the car.
I drive a lot of different cars and none of them make this annoying hum even my track car

Have you ever changed the oil in the differential? Giubo ok? Rear wheel bearings good?

I was thinking one of them parts, but you can only really hear it when in the drivers seat (I've sat everywhere else in the car with other people driving and its barely noticeable)

Could be rear wheel bearing maybe amplifying through the car?

What tyres are you running? Either those or diff is my bet. Diff can get really loud but would start as a low hum increasing with speed then loud at any speed.

Running brand new Yokohama advan 105s.... I had a cheap set on before and it made the noise then.

Going to a bmw specialist later, will get him to check my diff for signs of leaking etc.
