Potential clutch issue?

Post by ttassie15 » Tue Jul 03, 2018 6:16 pm

Hi,
When on the motorway in 5th, if I accelerate around 2000rpm (peakish toque) I get a bit of hesitation, revs go up and then come back down, like it’s slipping. I’m worried it’s the start of the clutch on the way out? Only time it happens (for now). If it is the clutch can I get it repaired now in early stages or will it need to be replaced? And whilst I’m repairing/replacing it am I better off going for a uprated clutch or is the standard clutch fine. (Car has stage 1 remap and Sachs clutch’s are rated to 560nm). Have also read it’s an idea to change the DMF whilst the car is apart, to save labour costs for next time.
Cheers

Yup, sounds exactly like a dead clutch. :(

I'd certainly have a good feel of the DMF while it's all apart.

I’ll order the parts then, and a dmf and I can return it if it’s not needed can anyone recommend a good garage in south London, preferably around Croydon area? Should I be going exclusively to a bmw specialist or clutch specialist or can I go to any garage really?

Literally any backstreet garage should be able to change a clutch, that's bread and butter service work.

LUK have an app for measuring DMF freeplay which is useful.

Don’t forget you need new clutch bolts and new flywheel bolts if changed.
