19" Wheel Size Question

Post by RobHardyUK » Sat Feb 09, 2019 3:09 pm

Hi Guys

I currently have AC Schnitzer Type 3 wheels, which are 19" and 8.5j all round. They are ET43, however to clear the calipers the front has 5mm spacers (so ET38), and the rear has 3mm spacers (so ET40).

With the spacers installed, I was getting slight rear arch scrub with Pilot Super Sports (staggered sizes, rears being 245/30/19). However, swapping to PS4S squared setup to match the wheels, I am getting arch scrub all round now. The tyres are 245/35/19 all round this time, I couldn't get any 30 profiles.

I have ordered some staggered 19" BBS CH-R alloys from Wheelbase, and decided to confirm what they have ordered. They have ordered 8j fronts, and 9j rears. So the fronts should be fine, however the rears I am worried once again will clash. The rears will be ET44 (so great, they will sit in more) - however with the extra 0.5" width do you guys think this will all be back to square one?

Hope that makes sense!

35 is the wrong profile, I'd sell them an buy yourself a set of correct diameter tyres.

Tractor tyres + lowering springs + a little steering lock = buckled arch.

Thanks Marco. I struggled to find a 245 that's 30 profile in 19" (PS4S at least).

What do you think about 255/30/19 on the 9" rim? (ET44 Rear)

As opposed too currently 245/35/19 on the 8.5" rim (ET43 with 3mm spacer, so ET38 which scrubs)

255/30/19 on a 9" ET44 Rear rim should be fine.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S should be readily available in 245 30 19. However I would without doubt use this opportunity to go wider as these cars are under tyred. Marco better at advising on et than me however but the BBS sizes should be fine

Thanks, I checked Michelins website and there is no buy now for that size. They don't show up on Black Circles neither.

My worry is that on this website comparing my current rear wheel size vs the new ones on order;

https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?w ... offset2=44

It states;

Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 12.4mm closer to the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 0.4mm more than before.

So it seems things will be worse? Or am I missing something? Wheelbase are adamant the new wheels are ok for my car

The outer aluminium rim will poke out 0.4mm more than before, correct.

But the tyre will be 4mm further in (ET40 vs ET44). Tyre fitment works off tyre centreline.

I still don't think 245/35/19 balloon tyres are a good idea though, they're not proven to clear, simply too big on diameter.

You need to register on a site such as Flickr and upload any photos onto there. Once on you then need to click on the photo, then click share and copy and paste the BBCode onto here and the photos will appear. Bit of a pita but not difficult

Hi. Do you have any pics of your car with the 19" ACS Type III rims on? I really like the design of these wheels, just curious about seeing them on an F series.
