Thanks Marco Polo. I'll give it a try. It will be a few weeks before I pick up my 220d. I'd rather not have to lose my winters as I've recently refurbished the alloys & the tyres are only a few months old.

Having just bought an '09 120d M-Sport (E88) that has aftermarket 18" TSW wheels fitted, I'm considering swapping back to original issue ones. Does anyone know if an M-Sport would have been supplied with staggered 18s when new, or would it have had 17s, with 18s as an option? Will any original 17s fit, same width front and rear, perhaps with slightly wider tyres fitted to the rears? I'm thinking that 17s would keep the cost down come winter - living on a hill, I always fit winters at the back end of the year.

I'd expect all BMW 17" 1 Series wheels to fit your 2009 120d. The original size probably would have been a staggered set of Style 207m wheels, with 205/50/17 front and 225/45/17 rear tyres. They're a pain to clean though, very spokey.

I'd be after something like a staggered set of Style 142 or Style 262?

Thanks for the quick reply! :)

I see what you mean about the 207m ones! I'll have a look for a set of the others you suggest - nice, wide spokes! :D

I've found a set of 256s that I think would look good on our E88 M-sport, they need a refurb, but they're very keenly priced. Only 'issue' is that they're not staggered, just 7j ET47 all round. Are they going to look lost under the arches, or would some 215/225 (not sure re profile) tyres fill them nicely? Any tyre size recommendations gratefully received - as would be advice along the lines of 'don't get them, they'll look silly'!

I have a set of 719M Jet Black alloys that I want to fit winter tyres onto. However I'm struggling to find the tyres that I want in the correct sizes.

If I stick to stock sizes, I can get Conti TS850P and Michelin Alpin PA4s in 225/40 for the fronts but nothing is available in the 245/35 rears.

However I can get 235/40 sizes.

Therefore what would be the preferred set up. Either:

225/40/R18 front with 235/40/R18 rears

Or...

235/40/R18 all round (front and rear) for a square set up?

Thanks.

They'd look a bit lost under the rear arches tbh. I'm guessing you'd prefer to avoid silly wheel spacers and longer wheel bolts?

Per the M-Lite FAQ Sticky, most people run a staggered set-up with 225/40/18 92 fronts and 235/40/18 95 rears.

Ah, OK. I've just looked at an E88 that lives round the corner from us - it's got one of those M-stripey grilles on, mentioned in another thread! Anyway, it's a 118d on 17s, and tbh I thought they looked OK......hmmmm, decisions, decisions....but yes, I don't fancy using spacers at all.

Hi,
I Drive BMW E81 123D 2007
Now I have
FRONT
215/40R18
8JX18 ET49
REAR
245/35R18
8.5J18 ET52

Now that I have 2 cracked rims I want to change to
8.0X18 ET 34 and 8.5X18 ET37

Will this fit? Does someone have pics of this setup?

Thanks!
(Search-function didn't work with all decimals)

They'd be very stanced/pokey, more than I'd usually recommend.

Depends on the fit/look you want? They might not rub if you wanted it super-pokey?

Or for a more OEM look I'd try to stick to nearer ET42, as a rough guideline.

I've installed 8x18 et43 front and 8,5x18 et45 at the rear.
With 215 and 245 tires.
Thanks for the advice!
