Re: Thoughts on wheel fitment

Post by docwra »

As a former member of the offset police Ive been doing this for years ............ ;)

First up to get the best of any fitment you need lowering, ideally until you have no archgap at all. You can do all the calculations you like but if a migrant family can live in your archgaps it will look gash.
If the wheels arent rubbing at the moment they probably wont, its surprising how a rim can look like its going to smash the arch but work out fine, camber is always good in this respect. Offset calculators are your friend but dont take camber into account, https://www.rimtuck.com/ gives pics to see how much difference 4degs is against 1.5degs.

Get it all right and you too can have fitment like this Image

Return the rears, buy two more fronts.

9.5” at ET35 aren’t ever going to look decent I’m afraid.

I wish it was that simple, I got them from someone I know pre-loved and as far as we know there are no other sets of this wheel in 19 inch in Australia (and definitely none for sale). Most wheels that are readily available in this PCD are for Commodores and are 20 inch. Other sizes can be ordered but tend to attract the Australia Tax as they're usually a one-off. I'm going to take a wild guess and say 20s won't fit under there

Looks like I might need to leave as is until I find something I like in the right offset. I do actually like the look but was hoping for a more permanent solution!

Can anyone confirm if these wheels will fit my m235i convertible please? Front - 19 x 8.5 ET40 Rear - 19 x 9.5 ET45
Also will 235/35/19 and 255/30/19 be the correct tyres?
I don’t want a stretched look.
Thanks.

Wheels are basically fine, I’d go 245/30/19 fronts personally.

The rears are going to look slightly stretched, but 265’s will either need an arch roll and more camber, or wheels with more offset.

That’s great thanks.
Would the 235/35/19 fit ok on the front? Only asking as there aren’t many tyres made in 245/30/19.
What offset would be better for the rears?
Sorry for more questions but I’m not that clued you on wheels offers etc.

235/35 would fit, they're quite large on diameter (larger than the rears) so it's not my go-to size. A stretched 225/35 would be a perfect diameter match if you don't like the Penny-Farthing look.

ET45 is perfect for 255mm tyres. If you wanted to fit 265's, roughly ET49 would be better.

That’s great. Not sure what to do as I don’t want bigger sidewalls on the front than the back but I’m not too keen on stretched look either. Are they likely to be really stretched looking if I went for 225/35/19?

Yes, rather stretched. They're the minimum width tyre you can safely fit, with zero kerb protection.

Doesn’t sound like that’s the look I want.
I’ll have a think as I haven’t ordered the wheels yet.
I’ll see if I can find a picture of the 2 tyre options fitted to the wheels and go from there.
Thanks for your help.

Hi All,
I need a bit of help to confirm a couple of things, and just to say, this thread so far has been a massive help; thank you!

Have a 240i convert - Stock suspension with no LSD at 458bhp, and looking to tackle the handling side (no plan to lower or track).
Plan to order PS4's 18s and a set of Bola's FLR's to replace OEMs.

(F) 245/35/18
(R) 255/35/18
with 18x8.5j Front ET 40 & Rear ET 45.

Would this tyre spec fill the gap in arches nicely at stock height? - A bit unsure between 40' or 35' if the car will remain at stock height.

And should I be considering a square setup instead? e.g 245 all corners.

Appreciate the response Marco - Would it be an odd fit if I went back to 245 on the rear at a later stage with ET at 45? Thanks
