On my xdrive?
I'm on 225/255 and I would like to keep this difference with my incoming winter setup.

225/40/18 and 255/35/18 are a really good diameter match, so I think that would be the perfect set-up.

Thanks mate, someone (you ?) wrote in an other section of the forum that big rear winter wheels were not good and that 225 all round would be the better solution.

Technically, thinner are better in deep snow, but you shouldn't struggle in a 4x4. I would run 255 winter tyres on mine if they would fit on my wheels (as we don't get much deep snow).

In snow conditions a narrower tyre will give better traction and grip than a wide tyre...

If you follow rallying in snow you will see they are on the skinniest tyres in those conditions

Yeah I know there are multiple threads about this already, but I didn't find a good answer.

First of all, my car is a M135i -15 (LCI) Xdrive so I need fairly equally sized (circumference) fronts/reads.
My plan was to go with R:255/35-18 and F:225/40-18 but that seams impossible to find, as I live in Sweden I need special "Nordic compound" tires..
2nd options was pure stock size, same thing there, not available.

So what I have to choose between is:

1. Stock wheels with 225/40-18 front and 235/40-18 rear (narrower but taller).
2. X1 steel wheels with 225/45-17 all around.

Does anyone run the these setup and can comment on them?

On an xDrive, I'd fit a set-up with equal diameters.

Probably 225/40/18 all round, something like Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2

I wouldn't recommend different diameter tyres for an xDrive, as that stresses the transfer box. Square are the same size obviously, as are 225/40 and 255/35. He is based in Scandinavia, so he's probably better on 225 rears.

I would not recommend 225/40 and 235/40 on an xDrive as they do not match. Does that clear things up?
