Just to advise any one searching for similar - the 17x8 Fox f.x MS007 do NOT fit. They have a tapered side rather than a groove for tyre fitting, and this taper goes all the way across - meaning the diameter available gets smaller the further on the wheel goes. I was trying an 17x8 et43 - it fitted the front, with maybe 2mm to spare, but wouldn't fit the rear. Maybe using a thin spacer to stop the wheel going on so far would work - but that's not what I want.

Lovely wheel though, and nice and light, really disappointed it didn't work out.

I've attached pictures of the front just so you can see the clearance an et43 at 8j has on the strut.
Thanks for reporting back, useful to know but sorry they didn’t fit :(

WE HAVE LIFT OFF!

The Mak FF arrived. I was sceptical as I had contacted the factory and was told they don't make or supply the Flow Formed 17 any more; and I believed Oponeo was sourcing stock directly from them - so I was ready for the standard (i.e. fully cast and not flow formed) to arrive.

But they arrived, and were the right ones - on close inspection are all QC checked about two years ago - so someone has stock.

Fitted front and rear to check clearance - all marvelous. About 9mm clearance in the brakes (checked using a blob of blu-tak and spinning the wheel).

I measured the weights and widths and was a little amazed that the 235R spec yoko is half an inch wider than the 245 PS4. Makes me glad I held out for 8" rims.
Yokohama AD08R 235/45/17 total width is 9.5"
Michelin PS4 245/35/18 total width is 9"

Mak Luft FF (17x8, et43) with new 235 tyre = 20.9Kg (wheel is 9.4kg without tyre)
436M (18x8, et52) with almost new 245 tyre = 22.4kg
381 (17x7.5 et43) with almost new rft Michelin winter 225 = 23.5kg

Two questions for you:
How close is too close? I've attached a picture which shows the gap. I went for a run, and did lock to lock with no rubbing (that I could hear). I think it is fine, but is there any flex/oscillation going to happen over potholes of touch track kerbs?

The wheel studs have 3mm less exposed thread now. On the 436m and the 381 wheels, 22.5mm stick though to engage the hub. On the new wheels only 19.5mm stick through. I don't think this matters much, but any thoughts on this? The same torque being carried by 13% less thread ?

Not that I was too concerned with appearance, but I think these look very pretty....

Clearance is clearance, they look fine to me. :) If you get any witnesses of contact after a hard drive you might need a thin spacer and longer bolts.

Current bolts should be ok in theory, you can usually get away with -3mm.

Thanks again for keeping us posted, that’s good to know.
But, you’re saying the wheel isn’t made anymore and your set were from old stock?

Interesting to know about the Yokohama’s. I run 255/35/18 AD08R’s on my Skyline which fit no problem. 265/35/18’s in Michelin Pilot sport 3 were bigger though and rubbed slightly at the front. Imagine the PS4 is slightly better packaged.

Are you coming to Bedford tomorrow? :)

No, not at Bedford. It is full I see, so even if I got the other pair of tyres mounted this afternoon I'd not be able to make it.

Mallory on Sunday is not full yet though..... Weather forecast is cold and wet though.

Looking forward to meeting up one of these days.

Yes. They come in cast or flow forged guise. The cast ones are still available. The FF are old stock. To be honest I am temped to buy a spare before they all go.

Thanks for info.

Useful to know weights, nice little mod that and will save you a fair few pennies on tyres too :)

Good luck for Mallory - make sure you get some footage :)
