135i winter wheels m sport alloys

Post by Justchris17 » Mon Jun 04, 2018 8:41 am

I'm turning my 18'' m sport alloys into winter wheels does anyone know the j rating and smallest size tyres that will fit onto these?

Are the rear wheels too wide to be effective in snow?

Most people fit 225/40/18 92 fronts and 235/40/18 95 rears.

You don't want to sacrifice too much wet/dry grip for the 5 days it snows.

Ive just taken off some very good condition Michelin Alpin winters in 225/40-18 which i had on my car for winter with good results, no point having anything wider in winter and the 225/40 fit fine on both front and wider rear wheels, if any use to you let me know i will think on a price.

Thanks Marco, it's for winter driving in Scotland so get more wet/snow days lol do you still think 235/40r18 is the optimal size?

What is the J rating for the standard rear 18" 261M Msport alloys are they 8.5J?

Were them 225's on the 261m alloys tyrant? How many miles did you cover on them and how much tread left? I'm interested in a price if you can PM me please

Fronts are 7.5J, rears are 8.5J

I guess 245/35/18 are roughly optimal, but they're a pricy size.

They were on the 264 alloys I bought but they are same size as 261 on a 135i, I did about 2000miles on them and previous owner of wheels did about same so still loads of tread left and will get some pictures later this week when I pop to my parents where I have them stored, pm on its way.

Is this still the common set up Marco? Looking to order in next two days. Will the 40 sidewall profile fit the rears no problem?

Has anyone used Nokian WR A4 tyres?

Yup, still the norm. And I use those Nokians myself, the Finn's know wintery conditions.
