Not had any luck getting these off. Undid the screw but can't get any further, does it need a lot of force? Or is there some technique to it? Tried watching some YouTube videos but it looks easier there but not for me!
Yes it requires force. The first time i did it i was afraid to break stuff. Imo the bolting is a horrible design.

Thanks for the replies, I'll give it another go tomorrow with a bit more confidence.

Just to add to this,

I've had the Twenty20's installed on my M140 for nearly 12 months (full set)

Went over a speed bump (very slow speed) and i got the warning of the bulb failure on the reversing lights although the bulb had actually stopped working.

Thought it was loose so i took it off and had a look but all was fine.... Presume the bulb just failed so will install a new one!

I replaced all my halogens for LED, front and back. I went for more expensive and more quality OSRAM LEDRIVING instead of cheap china cree LEDs.

Also, do NOT get white LED for brake and fog lights as it will turn out pink instead of red behind the red coated glass.

I got the following:
1x Osram-Premium-LED-Bulbs-382-6000K-Cool-White-P21W-BA15s-Bayonet-12V-7556CW-02B
2x Osram PY21W (581) LED Retrofit Amber Bulbs (x2) 12v 2W BAU15s 7557YE-02B
2x Osram Premium LED 382R Red P21W BA15s Bayonet 2W Retrofit Brake Bulbs 7556R-02B

This will leave you with a few spare LED's, 1x white and 1x red.
I've got an LCI2 F20, the front is all LED but the rears are halogens other than the Daytime running light bar. I like the sound of these Osram bulbs for the rear lights, but they say that they are not canbus compatible. Did you get errors at all? Did you code them out?

You have to code the car so that it knows you have leds a nd not halogens, thats all. No errors.

So I bit the bullet and ordered a full set of Twenty20 CREE LEDs for the rear cluster of my M140i 2019 model

Type 382 P21W in Red, Amber and Clear https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/382-p21w-led-bulbs/
This have a discount at the moment so you can save yourself 21.53 squid over the cost of a full rear set at normal price.

Installed in 5 mins, very pleased with the result. 8)
Not sure why people are trying to remove the cluster fully unless there is something different on earlier models. I simply undid the bolt, pulled the cluster until it came loose, disconnected the power cable, then you can ease the back of the cluster to the outside of the bodywork and it gives you enough access to the rear of the light assembly. Held in by four clips, and I found by unclipping the two closest to the inside of the car first then the two outside ones last, then the rear assembly containing the bulbs just comes out. Replace then reverse the process to fit them.

OK that's not an issue. I have done some searching and come up with these to code:
REM/3061/SL_2
REM/3061/BL
REM/3061/BFD
REM/3061/NSL
REM/3061/RFS
REM/3061/FRA_H

xxx_x_x_KALTUEBERWACHUNG - set to nicht_aktiv
xxx_x_x_WARMUEBERWACHUNG - set to nicht_aktiv
xxx_x_x_IS_LED set to aktiv

Can you confirm these are the same things that you coded to deal with the rear brake/reverse/indicator light checks?

That's good to know that the installation was easy for you, I prefer the sound of the Osram bulbs but I will try your install method.

I don't think you need to code anything if the LEDs don't produce any lights on the dash. Coding them stops the car checking their status completely.

Yeah thats not true, leds work differently. You will get bulb failure errors if you leave them on non led setting. The bulb works, but it throws an error.

Mine aren't coded and have been working fine for months.

Canbus compatible bulbs shouldn't throw any codes.

Coding for non-compatible bulbs disables the checks that the car normally does on the bulbs.

Yeah thats true for canbus bulbs, but the osram ones need Coding :).

Fair enough, thanks for answering!

I have plenty of coding experience with E-SYS in my F30. It had halogens at the front and I replaced the side lights and DRLs with LED bulbs that were supposedly "canbus friendly". The DRLs never flagged any errors but after only 3 months or so one died. The side lights both flagged errors, and even after coding I still sometimes got errors about them when my low beams turned on, but not every time. That's why I'm staying away from the supposed canbus friendly bulbs and going to give Osram a go.

Image

The front lights of my F20 look amazing, full LED with the angel eye DRLs. It's such a shame BMW didn't put LED bulbs at the rear as standard when the front looks that good.
