Xenon upgrade

Post by Jay95 » Tue Jan 12, 2016 5:47 pm

I'm looking at buying a Post facelift 2007 130i soon, but the one I'd get doesn't have xenon lights in it which really bugs me. I've seen various posts saying you can get aftermarket ones fitted, but I don't really like the look of them compared to the original BMW ones. I've seen people quoting £1,500 to do the upgrade, but is that just the parts? or does it include the labour and anything else that needs doing? Apologies for sounding like a complete tool.

£1500 is parts, fitting and coding.

It's an approximate price though, varies a little depending on which FRM you currently have, where the Xenon headlight units come from, etc.

Does the coding require specialist equipment? Or could I just take it to my local garage to be done?
What are the options for buying headlight units?

Coding is quite specialist, if you're trying to do this yourself you'll need a Laptop, cable and something like NCS expert software.

Most people go 2nd hand, make sure they're RHD though.

I wouldn't attempt it myself, I will just have to find someone who is able to do it.
I saw a 120d with xenons for sale at £2,600, so I'm tempted to buy it and just remove the front and rear lights.
Is it someone BMW still sell as a new part?

You'd also need the FRM, the headlight switch, the headlight washers, the looms, the front and rear axle height sensors, etc.

BMW are still fully supporting the E87 as far as I understand, all parts should be available.

I'm guessing to do all of that it would be more than £1,500? Are there any members in the forum that do it?

You can buy all of parts on eBay you can recode second hand frm but you have to make sure they for xenons if you need any help I'm sure us friendly lot will guide you. Mihad1 has just done a conversion from hologen to xenon but he hasn't done the full hog. Think he only put lights in without levelling sensors or wash system. Are you wanting to do full conversion.

I basically want the style of Xenons in the front, and "dark lines" in the back. I only want it for entirely cosmetic reasons, so if I could get the Angel eye (I think they're called that?) + projection lense look without the hassle of fitting xenons then I would. It's the reflector lenses I think look naff.
I'm not overly fussed about washers, and as long as it would pass an mot I'm not really concerned with the other bits.

So is it as simple as just plugging in a Xenon unit and then "coding" it?
I don't know if this is a confusing topic, or if I'm just being stupid, but I'm so lost as to what is and isn't possible
