Lightening dual mass flywheel

Post by Poormans »

Would love a lighter flywheel in the 130i but like most of you, would like to keep downsides to a minimum. I’ve a hard time convincing myself a single mass with a sprung clutch would do it for me.

Then I stumbled upon the Dinan lightened dmf for the m5. And was quite surprised it’s possible to lighten some dmf flywheels.

Any thoughts on lightening the 130i flywheel?

I’d be surprised if you could find anywhere to do it and then there is the safety factor of it exploding and coming through the footwell If it was weakened/material removed in the wrong areas

Good point.. anyone ever took a good look at the stock setup? Going by pictures there isn’t an obvious surplus of metal to do anything with?

If you want a lighter flywheel then perhaps better if it's not dual mass.
