Cylinder 1 timing corrections

Post by LibTech »

Afternoon folks.

Stage 1 mapped my 140i about a month ago using Bootmod3. I'm pretty happy - seems like plenty of power for 245 PS4 tyres!

One thing I've noticed each time I've logged is that I get a bit of timing correction on cylinder 1 - about 6.4 degrees is the max I've seen. This happens on every log (not always as much as 6 degrees, but always something). I'm running the 91 octane (95 RON) map with Shell V Power, so assuming it isn't a fuel quality thing.

Is this something to get concerned about? Plug, coil pack?

Log of 3rd gear pull up to 70mph, 6065rpm, WOT, boost at 17psi:

I haven't, only on my 2nd tank since mapping! I need to refill soon so I'll try Esso and log again.

If it's a fuel quality thing, would I not expect to see other cylinders affected too?

Thanks.

They might all be right on the bubble? If so, it's unlikely all six will pink at the exact same monent in time. Microscopic differences in spark plug #1 dimesions/cylinder coking might just be pushing it over the edge?

Cylinder 1 timing corrections

How old are the spark plugs?

For a 95RON map on 99 fuel, I’d expect clean timing right through the rev range.

-3 corrections at most.

MHD 95RON on Tesco 99 below.
