M135i EWG Jb4 map6 to MHD 2+

Post by Blind Pugh » Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:11 pm

The owner of my old car continues to fettle my trusty 5dr...

Before JB4 Map 6 (412bhp/494ftlb)

Image

After JB4 removed and OBD remap via MHD OTS stg2+ (426bhp/472ftlb)

Image

Power curves look very similar thru rev range with remap peaking higher at 5500.

Torque curve is a different story - JB4 shows 450lbft and up from 2250rpm to 4500rpm whereas same yardstick for MHD is 3500-4250rpm

I suspect overall driveability and smoothness was also improved with the flash.

More or less - the current owner of my old M135i [and others who have switched over from JB4 to MHD] says at WOT the initial pickup is noticeably tamer with remap compared to Jb4 and the dyno shows why.

Initially, I had boost limits set on 1st and 2nd gear to help traction etc however once you got used to JB4 delivery these boost limits were soon removed. During my tenure with the car, it's best standing starts were done wo LC, using the gearbox paddles and launching in 2nd gear.

Remaps will be smoother/more sublime as they're calibrated to work irrespective of throttle %age. Piggyback tuning boxes must have high load demand for their additive boost to function. With JB4 default throttle is ~ 70% IIRC and unlike most other tuning boxes, JB4 %age can be adjusted up or down to user preference.

Dyno implies from a side by side roll JB4 v MHD, JB4 car would initially pull away from MHD car. The flipside is perhaps MHD car may be better calibrated to use OEM LC feature than a JB4 car. However, given Mx35i AT 1st gear was very very short I doubt very much if an MHD car using LC would overcome JB4 car from a standing start.....

Looks like it's lost a lot of the low down torque

You can always tell him he welcome to test it on my dyno
