I seem to recall people being able to buy a tether/lanyard for a Mini fuel cap which were apparently identical ?

Fuel filler cap tether broken

Thanks Marco.
I think I have found the part number on realoem, fitting to the flap looks straightforward but does anyone know how you fit it to the filler cap end?

I've just had to replace mine, but I'm not sure the tether on it's own is replaceable as at the filler cap end it attaches to a hard plastic ring which looks like it doesn't come off without breaking it.

I’d be happy to find out how you guys get on with solving this because mines about ready to go and has been since the day I picked it up from the dealer, new! Been nursing it for the last 3 years but I’d like to replace it.

I had one break because it got caught in the threads of the fuel cap which split the cable. I just cut it off and used the holder for the cap in the door when filling up. Never missed the lanyard.

That's a very good point. I shall do the same. :)

Image I've only had the car three months and I always use the holder.
It must have been the previous owner, ahem. Image

I'll do what mctga suggests and just cut it off and use the holder.

Depending on the age, I recall someone mentioning getting it replaced on warranty.

My car is 6 years old and mine broke about 12 months ago. I might change it one day.

Mine broke the other day so I pulled some wires out from a small length of black electrical cable and used as a sleeve, put some glue down each end, pushed the broken ends of the tether down each end, sortted and a lot stronger.
