Changed my rear reversing light bulbs today for Cree led 50W.

Checked they worked by engaging reverse and for some reason my reversing camera works without lines, fading or cutting out/switching off?

It must be down to voltage or current drop due to filament bulbs.
This could be due to poor connection or those cheap Scotch-lock connectors.
Will solder all connections on the weekend if errors are gone?

Hopefully the problem has gone away but will check tomorrow.

I have also moved my GPS antenna from under the dash to under the roof lining for a better (instant) signal.

I didn't get the camera but I wish I did now.

How did you route the GPS cable into the roofline? I'll do the same if you can show me how, my GPS takes a good 7 8 minutes to get a lock, it's also under the dash mounted on the metal bar that is there.

To route the GPS antenna into the roof line you will first need to disconnect the antenna from the rear of the screen.
leave the vent unit off.

Once this is done, use a draw wire place to feed from the passengers footwell up behind the glovebox.
Looking down through the vent housing look down the passenger side and you should see the draw wire.
Make a hook out of a piece of stiff cable or some suitable to hook onto and pull the draw wire through the vent housing.

Tape the screen connector end of the GPS antenna onto the end of the draw wire in the passengers footwell and carefully pull it through withough damaging the connector.

Plug the GPS antenna back into the screen unit and replace the screen and the vent unit.

Lastly, feed the antenna cable up through the side pillar, along the roof lining using a soft tool prise back the roof lining need the centre and tuck the antenna under, it will stay in place due to the magnetic core - all done.

Any slack cable just tuck it into the roof lining.
Do not use a screwdriver to pull the roof lining out will damage it :(

Should take about ten to twenty minutes max :) .

I've been looking at getting one of these for a couple of weeks now and can't believe I've missed thus thread!

My biggest concern is audio quality from the Android side as I plan to use Spotify.

What is the general consensus on it?

The audio is definitely poorer in comparison to the stock system, however you learn to live with it I guess. Mixing with equalizer apps can get it to sound a bit better, but at the end of the day it's still a bit disappointing.

Personally I think the screen is really worth it, audio aside. It improves the look of the inside, and the features it brings are great. I upgraded from a 6.5" piece of non-navi bollocks so this is definitely wonderful for me :)

Like others have stated, audio is crap. But just use the original idrive for your music needs.

I have a Bluetooth receiver connected to the aux hole in the armrest so when i get in the car I stream Spotify from my phone. Then when Spotify auto loads on the headunit I can control the music on the headunit screen while the music is still streaming from my phone.

This allows me to control spotify on the HU while listening to the music through the original idrive. Weird setup I know, but it works well. My only problem is the lack of spotify steering wheel control.

Okay thanks that's really helpful. Could I theoretically have Google maps displayed on the unit while music is being played through the original system!

Seems like it requires Android 5.0+. The screen has version 4.4.4.

Alright lads, RE: YouTube fullscreen check this out:

Seems like this guy has the same screen as most of us do, and his YouTube videos play in fullscreen. Apparantly you can expand the video with your fingers to place into full widescreen mode? I will try it out tomorrow and get back to you with the results. Fingers crossed!

Been following this thread for while now holding off on the general feedback.

Are many people using spotify with no HK, If so what is the sound quality like?

What I do is play Spotify from my mobile connected via Bluetooth, launch Spotify on the unit and I can control what's playing via the steering wheel buttons. Get the album art and so forth.

And that's how I do it too. I did get the steering wheel controls to work once but I have no idea what I did to get it working.
