I was considering fitting a towbar for cycle carriage to my M235i and got involved in the convoluted issues around what is possible to fit vs what is certified to fit. Just worth checking your V5C to make sure that your spec' can legally have a towbar fitted. Because my car's V5C is blank for towing weights (O.1 and O.2 below) it means that it's illegal to fit a towbar.

I had people on various forums say I should ignore this as it's possible to fit one and I was only carrying. But the independent fitter said there's no way he could undertake an illegal fitting - his liability would be huge if there was an accident and/or it was sold onto someone unknowingly and traced back to them and my insurance would be completely invalidated. And I had checked with my insurer (who offered me a discount!) so you can't rely on the insurer to make the connection between your V5C and a towbar.

So worth a quick check.
It is NOT illegal to have a towbar fitted to the M135i, 235, etc.
Its IS illegal to tow with it afterwards due to the lack of a specified drive train maximum weight, braked weight, etc.
Cycle racks, etc are NOT classed as a trailer by DVLA, police or your insurer. The key word is TOWABLE.
I have that in writing from mine who happily cover mine with it fitted.
You do realise you can pay the £150'ish and VOSA will check it and you can then have it marked on your V5 as the other models have.
BMW themselves coded mine and ensured the latest software was loaded at the last service and MOT in december.
No issues at all.

@HammyUK Well, thanks for the advice. Although I don't appreciate the tone. Just trying to make sure people were aware. And your post is the first and only time I've seen this information, which was contradicted by both fitters that I approached. Don't think I'll bother in future. Cheerio everyone.

My "tone"?
There is no tone - merely pointing out your incorrect information thats all.
There is a large legal difference between towing and carrying which is where you fell down in the information you posted.
