BMW download manager states 2018-1 available for my car, maybe a staged rollout?
2018-2 for pro nav.
2018-1 for business nav.
I've business nav and updated to 2018-1 when I bought my car over 3 months ago.
Correct, no update for business nav yet.

BMW need to do a tie up with Google maps. It blows whatever they do out of the water.

Updates happen all the time and new roads and routes are added fast.
Yes, but that would require a continuous high-speed data connection to each car with sufficient capacity to download full maps as well as traffic data. It would cost a fortune - and would also leave you without map data whenever you were in a poor signal area. Not going to happen any time soon - Tesla do it, but they have budgeted for a permanent high-speed data connection to each vehicle. (Although they are now starting to pass that cost on to the purchaser.)

My pro nav is still on 2017-3.

I was trying to trigger an over air download but can't see how to. There was options greyed out.

It's really outdated missing key roads in Scotland including the updated M8 and Queensferry crossing.
This happened to me at the weekend at the new M8 interchange beside Strathclyde Park. The woman got a bit confused. Did you find out how to get a wireless download?
Has anyone who has already installed it noticed any interesting differences compared to the old software?

I've hardly been in the car to have a look. Usually the downloads happen automatically, but it's clear when this happens. There will be a download percentage on the screen next to the time when in sat nav mode.

I contacted BMW about map updates a few weeks ago. It transpires that map updates for the car's country of registration are received automatically 'over the air'. However if you want the Whole of Europe then you have to go the USB download route. I downloaded via USB the latest one a few days before leaving the UK when I went on holiday in Europe.

My car is stuck on 2017-3 and still hasn't downloaded anything newer. I've used the car a lot in the last few days.

Automatic updates is enabled and I'm still within the active timeframe.

I started downloading 2018-2 on the laptop last night and it kept failing. I'm trying it again today. 50% downloaded and another 65 minutes to go.

Over the air updates are only for the country of registration and don't show up as an update to the main database, only the USB ones do that. I haven't found a way to find out the status of the UK only part. It does take a while to download the full USB ones.

My software revision used to have a UK maps revision and a Europe revision on idrive. After installing the update yesterday it only shows the Europe revision.

The download was around 29gb and there did not seem a way of choosing UK only. My laptop took another 30-45mins to unzip and it took the car another hour to install. It happened in the background and was very easy. The car recognised the USB as soon as I plugged it in. I was never prompted for the security code though.

On my drive home last night the sat nav finally wasn't confused by the roads around and the Queenferry Crossing.

I didn't go West yesterday. I would seriously hope they would be in it given the significance of the road.

Has anyone had the same experience of the download requiring 29GB of space yet it refusing to transfer onto a freshly formatted 31.7GB stick citing ‘not enough space’???

Yep, does it every time I update mine. Always need a 64GB USB.

It’s due for a brake fluid service tomorrow. I’ll ask if the dealer can do it. Would they charge me for it do you think?

Yep. It’s because a 32gb USB stick isn’t 32gb according to the computer because it calculates bytes differently to the manufacture of the USB stick. Also has a partition that you can’t see. Also the BMW download requires slightly more than the 29gb size file to save to the stick. Really boring but only a 64gb ever works for me.

What I found is that if you leave your PC to go into a low power state it often messes up the download and stops.
