BMS Intake Removed - Hesitation

Post by Benp » Wed Feb 06, 2019 8:41 am

Morning,

Removed my BMS intake due to hesitation around 1.5k - 2k rpm.

Since swapping to the standard air box and filter the issue has mostly resolved its self. However on sudden wide throttle openings i'm still getting the same hesitation then rush of power.

Is this something the car will slowly "learn" its self away from, or am i looking at other, possibly unrelated issues.

No EML, or warnings at all.

Cheers

Ben

Was the BMS an oiled filter?

I'd be tempted to disconnect the battery overnight, see if you can encourage the ECU to re-learn adaptions?

The filter was freshly cleaned and oiled by myself.

I will try the battery disconnect, see if that works! thanks for the suggestion.

Morning commute completed, just not the same without the sound!

Oil can destroy your MAF, happen fitting a K&N to my old 3er. :(

There has been some issues with BMS intake in N55 engines. It's something to do with MAF. But other engines, clean MAF carefully useaing brake cleaner.

Its a right shame to be fair, the sound from just the filter was bonkers.

I have a tin of electrical cleaner at home and a spare MAF. ill have a clean and swap and see what results i get.

Quick Update:

Disconnected the battery for ~3 hours. Cleaned MAF and its all back and happily running again.

To test the theory of the re-set, i have reinstalled the BMS intake, with clean MAF and "reset" ECU, and all happy again.

Incidentally if you are going to disconnect the battery in the boot, via the negative lead like i did. Please be aware that my boot locked itself on closing, and with no power i had to climb through the backseats to re-energise!
