118d M Sport Remap Pro’s / Con’s

Post by YouthAVFC » Mon Feb 11, 2019 8:26 pm

I had my old car Civic FN3 remapped from 143bhp to 185bhp. I could instantly tell how much faster it was, it was great. Only bad part of getting the civic remapped was the clutch started slipping really bad. The car got written off from being hit by a lorry so I didn’t get to see much of the car remapped.

Anyway I’ve now got a 118d and I’m thinking of getting it remapped. What are the pros and cons of getting it done on BMW?

Shouldn't be many downsides really, the cost of having it done, a small insurance hike, and marginally worse mpg only when you're driving hard. BMW clutches are double-hard.

Will their be no damaging strain on engine components like the chain?

The only things that would put more strain on the chocolate chain are something like stiffer valve springs, a remap shouldn't add any load to it.

If you're rightly concerned about the dodgy N47 chain, are you already changing your oil every 8k?

I’ve not drove it 8k since I’ve had it yet, I intend to service it all every summertime

You won’t have any problems with a remap as long as it’s done properly by a reputable mapper. BW Chiptune would be my choice.
