Potholes? The fightback starts here!!

Post by Ezzra » Thu Feb 22, 2018 4:48 pm

Three separate potholes at different times over the last month, near to where Iive. Sick and tired of having to drive round them, I reported them using this site:

https://www.fixmystreet.com

100% success rate so far. Seems as tho' council gets embarrassed into action :D

It;s not embarrassment, it's to do with claiming compensation. They can wriggle out if they "didn't know about the pot hole" and therefore weren't negligent.

Once they've been informed (e.g. on this site) if someone then makes a claim they'll have to pay out as they can no longer state they didn't know, so it's in their interests to send a truck out with a couple of dodgy blokes chucking gravel and bitumen in the hole.

Will probably be a gaping hole again before springs properly here but at least it gives them a kick up the behind short term.

Had my first pothole response from council.

It has been deemed safe and it may, or may not, get a temporary fill depending on funding etc etc blah blah

I guess if I get a puncture/whatever from it I can at least try for a bit of compo...

The roads are a mess.

Everyone needs to report them to get them fixed or at least help other people get reimbursed for the damage.

Everyone leaves it for each other to report.

We need to reinvigorate the Wanksy movement.

Friend of mine hit a crater and damaged his alloy wheel. Council said he couldn’t prove where it happened!

There is a really bad 4inch wide trench that is around 3inches deep that goes across two lanes of a dual carriageway near me. Its been there for months and you can hear peoples cars judder going over it. I feel sorry for the bikers who have to go over it, must be a pretty big shock for them. I actually dont use that road now because of it.

Thanks for the site, i am going to report loads :)

Edit - oh wow i put my postcode in and its like a sea of yellow markers lol and that road above has been reported loads of times months ago :?

It's not just the potholes but the fragments/loose stones surrounding them that get fired off onto your bodywork. More so since the big freeze hit. I seem to have new stonechips every week on the bonnet and front wings and last week I picked up two on the roof

And when the holes do get filled, they look like they've been done by Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles in their spare time.

Most of the potholes are caused by substandard work by untility companies.
You would think with today’s technology they would be able to trace who did the work and either charge them for the repairs or make them put the road back as it should be.

Do you also get lots of sunken drain covers etc? Around here they are all over the place, especially the drains at the side of the road, a nightmare for cyclists and quite frankly, downright dangerous.

There was a guy on the telly the other night that they called the gorilla pothole filler - he was 70 or something and goes round filling potholes in!

You'd think that was illegal, but funnily enough the council are all for it, they will provide training!

I've started reporting them but never hear a thing back or see any action taken on them. Reported 2 at the same time about a month ago but nothing - they've been like it for as long as I can remember.
Also reported one at the weekend, probably the biggest pothole I've ever hit and seriously surprised I haven't done any damage or I can't see any at least. On the way back home I saw a couple measuring it's depth, figured I'd report it too.

They are becoming dangerous around here, there are two stretches of main road near me where every car literally has to slow down to 5-10mph and weave around them.

Next time I am out i will take some pictures as it's hard to get across via typing just how shocking they are!! :x

New approach by a County Council

Reject the claim because 'they are scheduled for repair "within reasonable time".'

http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent/news/k ... es-161450/

So maybe if you smash your wheels on a pothole that is 6 months old you will get compo. If you smash your wheels on a pothole that is 5 months old you pay for it yourself.
