Honda or Briggs & Stratton

Post by Octavius » Tue Aug 20, 2019 9:55 pm

I need a new petrol lawn mower. I’ve got my eye on two. A Webb with a Briggs and Stratton engine and a Honda. Are the fabled Honda engines worth another £100 or are the B&G ones reliable enough :?:

I've had a Briggs and Stratton engine lawnmower for well over 10 years, easy to repair/service, yes Honda is probably better but at a price.
Previously owned
Honda civic ep3 TypeR
Bmw Z4
Mazda 3 diesel 185 sport
Ford focus ST250
Currently own
Mini Cooper
Vw golf mk2 Gti
Bmw m140i

Spot on here. Briggs are very reliable and will last for ages.

Personally though, if your lawn is not too large, consider getting a battery-powered mower. No servicing and you don't have to pay road duty to mow your lawn.

Briggs & Stratton on my Hayter Spirit - starts first time after the winter :)

If you aren't after stripes then the Honda Izy look a good machine

The izzy is the one I was looking at. Not fussed about stripes so the £300 one would do.
The Webb one with the B&S engine is £200 and about 4kg lighter.
I will hang on until this bank hol weekend and seeif there’s any offers on but I will probably order the Webb.
Thanks 🙏 for the replies.

My Hayter was used - collection only from eBay....a guy had moved house to somewhere without a lawn.

You might have seen but John Lewis do the Izy with 5 year warranty included

Looked at John Lewis. The five year warranty is subject to an annual service by Honda or an authorised dealer so makes it expensive. The service would be oil, plug and air filter and I would do that anyway.
There’s a dealer at Calderbridge, about five miles from me so I will try and get down this week and have a gander.

I'm not married. The gardner does mine. I know this as I was talking to him on Tuesday :)

Arrived yesterday. Filled with oil and petrol, fitted the handle and started first pull.
It’s got a bigger CC engine than my first motorcycle Image

Ended up with a bill for nearly £200 when mine went in last year. It's getting a £20 service kit this year - sod the warranty!

Jesus. That’s the cost of a decent mower.
