New Toy for Wash Day!

Post by LadyBayImp » Sat Feb 17, 2018 9:42 am

First, sorry for not posting in the detailing forum (can’t seem to find any more)

Image

Just got this vac/blower and hope to try it out for a near touch-less wash this weekend.

Will update tomorrow evening how it performs against a drying towel. Might even do some vacuuming to get the interior looking respectable.

More car related noise for the neighbours

Just need to find a decent pressure washer now. The Aldi one I bought doesn’t seem to cut through the traffic film, even after applying products and leaving to dwell :(

Can anyone recommend one with a decent flow rate (not just pressure), for under £200? Thinking maybe petrol powered is the way to go. Vrooooooom! :D

It's one of my best investments, used to hate hoovering the car and now love it!

Also great to dry the tyres before putting tyre dressing on or to blow out all the water of little crevices before polishing! Best wear some kind of ear protection though, it's quite loud;)

As for a pressure washer for 200 quid I'd look at a refurbished nilfisk E145 or similar, as long as it's got a steel armoured superflex hose!

I’ve got one of theses, best thing I’ve bought. Just make sure it’s in your hand when you start the blower 😂😂

What are people's thoughts on blow drying the car?

As far as I know, it's not recommended. From a protective coating website (Opticoat), so it might be biased:

Tap water contains minerals. When water evaporates, these minerals are deposited on the surface creating "water spots" or "water marks".

I paid a lot less for mine, but I find it bloody noisy, leaves my ears ringing. to the point I have only used it s handful of times.

Yeah, my wife choked when I told her, but I argued people don’t think twice at paying that for a dyson. plus a Henry is £115.

I appreciate this isn’t in the same league complexity wise, but it does seem to be well constructed and hoping the motor is pretty solid. It certainly seems pretty powerful!

The array of attachments for getting in crevices is a bonus too - they look to be cheapish generic bits, but they’ll be great for the crumbs down the seats :)

It’s certainly noisy, but no more so than the jet washer.

Time will tell I guess. Will get my official opinion up as soon as I can.

If you've got a coating or good wax on your car you're blowing the water off and not just heat it till it evaporates (like let the car air dry in the sun) so either their coating isn't good as it doesn't sheet water or they don't use a powerful enough blower!

I'd say the vac 'n blo isn't powerful enough to be drying your car anyway, just use a good quality drying towel and use this to get rid of water in mirror caps etc. Get an air force master blaster for full blow drying duties (now that's expensive!)

If you just use it for mirror caps and door jambs etc it won't leave water marks and if anything shows nothing that a quick detailer spray won't fix!

I use a dog dryer. £90 from eBay. Does the same thing plus it’s got a heater on it so it blows out warm air.

Ideal for getting water out of those books and crannies that are a PITA after you’ve just dried it.

Could this be used to dry the car after a wash?

I use a blower only for wheels, callipers, door handles, my M badge (!), grills etc. Then a big MF towel followed by fresh MF’s with detailing spay.

So I finally got chance to use the blower - not really up to blowing off all the water, better for blowing out of the crevices as stated by many. However I did persevere and was able to go straight to detailing spray and MF cloth without getting out the big towels. Probably would have been quicker with them, but a challenge I was determined to win :)

Next job is to use it for the crumbs!
