Purchasing a M240i opinions please

Post by drifterr » Sat Feb 17, 2018 12:33 pm

Afternoon all,

So I have sorted out all the figures on this M240i and paying a desposit.
Before I sign all the paperwork etc I wanted opinions on the price.
This is the veihcle

https://www.srkcars.co.uk/bmw-m240i-spo ... re-6286324

The spec is awesome no doubt about it, just a bit worried about future value.
I know its extremely hard to say but would it be worth say £22000 in 3 years? I do about 4000 miles a year and maybe less to be honest (although maybe not the first year  )
Does all the MP stuff really add that much value? Can get a 17 plate with sub 5k miles with pro nav HK and M adaptive for £27-8k

Feedback will be greatly appreciated!!

No, the MP kit doesn't add much value, don't get punked unless you really want it.

Current prices on M235i (which are only 3 years old) start at less than £20k, so I can't see a 5 year old car being worth anything like £22k I'm afraid.

I bought a brand new one for about the same price. Just saying.

Looks a nice car with the kit on it.

I’d say it was overpriced.

I paid £33k for a fully loaded 240 on 1k miles that was 2 months old with full MP kit (bar skirts) inc exhaust.
That was over a year ago.

Edit: that didn’t include the MP wheels which I swapped off another car.

Nope not desperate one bit, what would you say its worth?
I'll go back to them with a reasonable figure and if they do not want to make a deal look for a non MP kit one..

Here's a nice newer 17 plate with a few less miles for £25k: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... 9289758459 , so that's approx my figure.

OK cheers guys, I'll carry on looking. Just want Pro nav, Adaptive and HK audio and then I'll see if a dealer will chuck in a MPE :D
Found a few at around 28k with all the above (no MPE) from dealers on 17 plate. 28k sounds ok to me?

Nice spec but as others have said, pricey. My brand new one was around that last Sept, though it didn’t have the M stuff

Stunning looking car bye the way, those parts really make the car stand out, standard M240 looks boring in comparison, thats why its a premium
price!

I would say its worth around 30k, given the M performance extras are 3-4k.

240i with 10-15k on the clock 66 plate seem to be on the approved used site for about 27k. Thats got around 4.5k worth of mp bits on (2k alloys, 1k exhaust, 1k exterior parts, 500 interior).

I think under 30 would be a good price.

Its not going to be worth more than 20k at 5 years old i wouldnt think, but 10k depreciation over 3 years isnt a lot for this kind of car.

Trade/CAP price for a 09/16 low mileage well specced Auto M240i is currently £22250. I've no idea what that translates to as retail or a BMW AUC, but the prices on the above website look pretty high, even allowing for the M Performance bits and bobs which you may or may not want. BMW would probably offer more as a trade against another new car, but that just gets offset against any margin for discount.

Edit: The above is my own experience of hawking my car around several dealers last week rather than WBAC type valuations.
Current - M240i 8AT
Previous - Audi S3 DSG, Porsche Boxster S 981 PDK, Porsche Cayman S, Audi TTRS, Porsche Boxster S 987
Mercedes SLK 350, BMW E46 M3, BMW Z4 3.0, Honda S2000, Honda Civic Type R, Peugeot 309 GTI
