Fitting Coilovers

Post by ronanh » Sat Mar 17, 2018 3:51 pm

I'll be fitting a set of KW V1 coilovers to my LCI M135i shortly. Are there any special tools required for this job? I haven't worked on BMW suspension before, but I've fitted coilovers to several VAG cars before.

Also, when i'm in there, are there any other parts I should consider changing/upgrading? The car is 2 years old and just over 18k miles.

I'd invest in a (cam type) Hub Spreader Socket, makes removing and fitting struts a piece of cake.

Looks easier to use than a big screwdriver and hammer anyway! Cheers

The Damper rod nut on the fronts is a bit of a pig without the right tools. It has a torx/allan key female on the end to stop the shaft spinning. But is also in a tight cup which means my offset ring spanner doesn’t fit. I used a socket clamped on the outside with mole grips to make it work. Reminds me to buy some of those external drive sockets with hole in the middle.
