**Warning for NEW Car Collections**

Post by Mr.B » Wed May 23, 2018 4:19 pm

If you're collecting a new 1, 2 or 3 series, please ensure the car has Rock Guards fitted.

First pictures are of an M140i after 10k miles, second pictures are of the Rock Guards.

Thanks for posting pictures of the guards, actually a nice design that shields the channels and leaves the cooling fins unaffected.

BMW really need to get these into the country though so we can get them retro-fitted.

It's strange why this is happening so much on the Mx40's but on the Mx35's (Pre LCI) there was never a big problem!

Should there be a guard on the small radiator? Just picked mine up and it has rock guards on all bar the small radiator.

This should probably be added to an FAQ rather than complicate issues by having two concurrent threads about radiator damage and rock guards.

Because the Mx35i's do not have the additional water-air-intercooler radiator that is most vulnerable to being punctured.

Aye this is a particular issue for the B58 units so the M135i and the non Competition M2s (N55 units) are not effected in the same way. However, that doesn’t mean the N55 is completely safe from rogue stones.

Those pictures of the guards look familiar ;) :D

Oh and its not just the B58's that are impacted. The B48's are impacted too

I started a new thread as I thought it was only right to warn new buyers to check that rock guards are fitted when they collect their cars. They may not have read the other thread as the title is about leaking radiator A/C.

Standard M2 runs N55, competition M2 runs S55

Also, the water-air-intercooler radiator runs an entirely separate coolant line. You will note two radiator bottles in the engine bay. Bigger one is the main coolant line, smaller is for the air-to-water intercooler.
