Squeaky brakes

Post by Mad_Mac » Thu Jun 14, 2018 4:09 pm

I’m good at fighting for my rights but I’m lacking technical knowledge here so hoping you could provide me with a quick advice. My car gone for its first Mot today and the end of warranty healt check. I told them that from few weeks my brakes squeaking when I’m braking and I can hear that pads are touching slightly disks when I set off from home in the morning. I can hear that friction noise for first minute or two when passing a car or wall with dropped windows. Also last week one of them was squeaky during the driving at the speed of 20-30miles. I flagged that up to bmw and they called me back and stated that they would have to be cleaned however they would the have to take pads out and they would not be able to put them back in?! As there is over half life left in them I don’t want to pay for new pads. Is this really necessary or they are trying to avoid an hour of warranty labour?

Take them out and do it yourself, it’s so easy .. two pins and a clip then squeeze the pistons back a couple of mm and the pads will slide out.

Take them out, lube them up and put them back in.

I can't comment on why they are saying this, but there is no technical reason whatsoever why you can't remove and refit brake pads. The only time you ever need to replace pads before they wear out is if you replace the discs.

Thanks. That's what I thought.

Were they meaning the pad wear sensor maybe? These can break when removed

No idea. They just told me they can’t put them back in.
