Anybody fitted a Milltek?

Post by dibbly_dobbler » Mon Jul 16, 2018 6:37 pm

Sorry probably well-trodden ground but would welcome any thoughts and have a few questions. I have an LCI M135i.

1. Looking at something like this - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Milltek-BMW- ... pell_check seems cheap to me? Any idea what fitting might cost?

2. They have a 'race' and a 'road' version - anybody know what the difference is? Race = louder I presume?

3. It's 'cat back' so I presume no issue with passing MOT/fault codes/anything else nasty?

4. I don't believe it has valves (some others eg Remus do I believe) but as I drive on comfort 99% of the time (as I prefer a softer suspension) this makes sense I think as I would want it loud all of the time?

5. Do I need any other bits or anything else I need to consider?

Cheers :)

Looks like just the back box. Race is non resonated and road has a resonator. Looking at full system for my M140i when get back from holidays.

I have a Milltek Race exhaust, however it is on a M140i which does sound very different to a M135i.

2) Race, yes this this louder. On my exhaust it was the rear box where the difference between road/race was, must be baffling etc?

3) Yep, no MOT issues at all. Have had one on an RS6 for years, no issues what so ever.
4) Mine had valves, not sure about on M135i, but would imagine so. Is louder in comfort than stock for sure, only difference imo between comfort/sport is the pops and bangs. Noise level is the same in the modes, but more drama in sport. Why not configure sport to have soft suspension but engine/gearbox in sport?

5) Sooner you get it the more benefit you get!

Thanks Gents... Charles I am intrigued by your comment 'Why not configure sport to have soft suspension but engine/gearbox in sport?' Didn't realise you could do this but I have manual so maybe that is the answer?

I think I'd need to be getting full noise when on comfort or else there wouldn't be much point...

I'm interested in getting a Milltek race catback for my m240i, I was thinking of just getting the MPE but want to maintain the valve and I like the Milltek exhaust tip options, so seems a good option. Sounds decent on YouTube but not many clips with the 40i engine.

Are there any Milltek dealers who can do a discount?

Dibbly, yes it is one of the best functions. Comfort = soft everything. Sport I have to be just engine/gearbox in sport and then sport + which is the fun mode! Is in settings somewhere, maybe under configure? But as you go into Sport mode I think you can click on an option when the display changes.

Zabba, wouldn't waste the money on an MPE. I have been in a car with one, no real change but on start up. Need a proper system to really hear it. Demon tweeks were doing a good discount and 0% finance. I got mine from someone who works in the supply chain so ended up paying £1,100. For a race catback with cerakote black tips.

I'll be up for a Milltek cat back if anyone can sort a discount/group buy.

Thanks Charles I will have a look - maybe not such a big deal for a manual I guess.

Thanks, does it give any drone at all? I don't mind a bit more noise in comfort, but still want something relatively subtle unless I am in sport or sport +

Ok so now I am even more confused!

They have a 'Rear Silencer' version https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Milltek-BMW- ... m570.l1313

Also a 'Cat Back' version https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Milltek-BMW- ... m570.l1313

Both in Road or Race - the cat back seems to have a few more parts and is a bit more expensive so I guess it it louder or better in some way ?

Cheers for any advice!

The rear silencer is just the back box and the cat back is as it says from the cat back so fill system or you can get turbo back which includes a sport cat just to confuse you a little more.

No drone at all, is really good. Same level of noise as standard exhaust when on motorway. I have the auto however, I spoke with Milltek and they said the manual might give drone at the revs it holds at for 70/80 is higher.

Had a wee play today and looked into a bit more... I now have Sport set up with 'Drivetrain' only which gives me nice soft suspension for around town but had the valves open on the exhaust all the time I think?

Seems right according to the below anyway - so I best try this for a while before I do anything else!
