BMW Warranty and MOT: indy garage ok?

Post by Superlevure » Wed Jul 18, 2018 6:14 pm

I'm about to go touring Scotland but realised my MOT will be due in the middle of my trip :/

It's proving very difficult to find a BMW garage with availabilities before the end of next week.

Would it invalidate the warranty to take it to an independent garage for the MOT? (And is it generally a good idea?)

It has no effect on your warranty. You shouldn't pay more than £30 for an MOT.

MOT. You can go anywhere you like for it.

Take it anywhere you like, the MOT test does not form any part of your service history or warranty.

I'd book it into an official council/government test centre, they only carry out testing (no repairs), so they're not trying to drum up work with silly fails.

Thanks for your replies.

What if the car needs major repair (or just new pads), can anyone else than BMW do it? Would I not be stuck with the car there?

And is Halfords alright for that?? My regular indy has moved :(

How low are your pads?! How many miles left, according to the CBS?

With the new MOT regs, if the car is in a dangerous condition you can not move it.

Plenty of miles left. But well, it could be anything that they find that needs immediate repair.
