Front mud flaps

Post by stag74 » Sat Jul 21, 2018 6:45 pm

Although BMW say they don't do them for the M140i, the pre LCI 1 series mud flaps fit perfectly 100% to every contour and mounting hole.
Not to everyone's taste, but if good enough for Lotus to fit them to the front of their Elise, good enough for me, and hopefully reduce gravel rash and dirt down the side.

I had them on my M135i and they certainly helped to prevent paint chipping but decided to leave them off the 140 and applied some 3M film along the sills instead. Reason I didn't fit them is I think long term as I'm keeping the car moisture and rust could sit unnoticed.

Regarding the potential rust issue, it did give the opportunity before fitting to give the inner arch lip a good spray of cavity wax, having to partially remove the plastic inner arch retainer, and once fitted, through the drain holes in the flaps a good spray too so rust shouldn't be an issue. No different to the plastic outer sills covering the steel sills underneath.
Underneath my car is still as new, as when I bought it a year old this last spring it had only done a few K miles, so before this winter I'm going to give it a good spray of cavity wax underneath.
...will probably benefit any future owners!!
