Thinking about buying a sports cat, if you have one fitted could you let me know your opinion on it ?

Cheers

B58 DP has 2 chambers 600 & 400 - totalling 1000cpi “blockage” just downstream of the turbo.

Swapping out to 200 or 300cpi DP will help throttle response as turbo builds boost faster and no doubt turbo will be able to cope with load-control demands from DME as it will generate less heat.

Noise and peak power maybe subjective but gains throughout the rev range (ie growth in area under the dyno curve) will be plentiful

Ha ha BP, you’ve been listening to tuners for too long. They talk rubbish.

Nisfan - ho ho hi-de-hi no chat with tuners buddy. My comments are based on my 1st hand experience - albeit on n55 m135i with only a 600 cpi blockage in its stock DP.

You can find dynos on here as my m135i fettling evolved which confirms DP upgrade does add benefits plus I had JB4 logs in map 4 at the time showed shorter lag between pedal @ 100% and throttle @ WOT.

I've got a cobra sports cat fitted, and although I haven't dyno'd it, the increase in exhaust noise was worth it alone ! Car sounds mean now and it certainly feels more responsive to me when the turbo kicks in.

Cheers Andrew it was the cobra sports cat which I was looking at! Do you have the m performance exhaust ?

I used to, I've got a custom one made now which is a straight through most of the time (has a bluetooth valve to be able to force it through a silencer if I need to be quieter !) So the midpipe silencers are gone too, but I think with the MPE it will still be sounding lovely under load ! Definitely more pops and bangs in sport mode too.

I also used some thermal wrap around mine to keep the heat in the cat, should help it come MOT time as sports cats need to be HOT to be working efficiently.

Any catalytic convertor needs to be hot for it work, not just sports cat.

Fair play re thermal wrap. Also, to help at MOT emissions test time, consider taking your the car out the night before the MOT and give it an "Italian tune-up". Once warmed up, keep revs north of 4.5k and drive it like a rental for 20-30mins. Helps decoke the engine and blow out any gunk/particulates in the catted DP

My sports cat smells a bit. Something I’ve seen mixed reviews about with some not smelling and others smelling a bit but something to consider.
Minor fume type smell if that helps. No smoke and cars runs beautifully.

Roncee - If you have N55 - did you fit new gasket or re-use existing gasket in the joint where DP meets exhaust front pipe ?

I ask as recycling the existing gasket - by pulling radial tabs back to expect an air-tight seal around circumference when clamped - is bit of a lottery TBH. BP
