Wow. That’s nuts that can slip through unrecorded
Having worked in a body shop, I would see cars like this all the time. Crashed then repaired, and without looking carefully you would never know! I guess in this case you don't know if it's been repaired correctly or not.

Trouble is these are cars that have gone thru salvage not an insurance claim repair, they in most cases have clearly been written off and then repaired and sold on with a level of dishonesty as HPI clear and pukka..I dare say the outfits repairing these iffy cars do not stick to any quality or standard either that reputable bodyshops doing insurance work would do.They would do it as quickly and cheaply as possible to maximise profit and move on to the next one they are only really bothered by what is visable to the punter and money..

Out of 10 cars i checked out recently on ebay 7 of them that had been sold or were selling were by the same kind of people, that is all i am going to say, and not incl the 2 dodgy cars being sold by the owners of the garage mentioned in this OP, again also the same...

Figure it out for yourselves who are right at the front of this buying dodgy, write off, salvage cars scam...

So many of these end up smashed up and repaired, anyone who hasnt drive RWD before, the M140 is not a good place to start! I'd be very nervous about buying a used M140, too many seem to have a hidden past, whether they have been tuned, smashed up or both - even buying through a dealer doesnt pritect you against a hidden past buying new is the only way to go!

Applies to most performance cars, but the M140 seems to get smashed up unusually often - they are leathal in the wet

Driving gods and heroes everybody is one.. Some of them i am seeing smashed n trashed are barely 6- 12 months old...

would i buy one private after seeing what i have seen looking for mine? Hell no!! Not unless you were mates with it's owner or knew its entire past, Main dealer affords you some comeback and somebody to go at if it turns out iffy though. In the end private or joe bloggs garage it does not as much.. A joes garage will happily sell you something that may have been mapped and thrashed A main dealer they are at least a liitle bit more sniffy and cautious but not perfect...

That's because they are cheap enough to be accessible to younger and inexperienced drivers. We had the Golf R as the go to car for the aggressive youth for a couple of years, now it's the M140i.

They are affordable on PCP deals and BMW have sold a shedload. Volume sold is always going to end up with a lot crashed.

Ironic just seen a metallic blue F21 think it was an M140 or M135i judging by the front valance/fascia on it and M logos on front wing he or she has stuffed it in a hedge, hazards flashing away, looks like he or she has lost it and spun it and gone in hedge and fence backwards...

Weather today is strange in cheshire at mo there is sunny dry stuff and cloudburst, wet patches going on......

It was light damaged;) If there was no damaged at all they wouldn't attach cat N. Not too dodgy, just seller misdescribed a little bit. Comparing to others he is an angel in my books :D

Still spinning a yarn suggesting it's his own personal car that was stolen and recovered when it clearly went through a salvage auction.

Surely if damage rates were genuinely disproportionate insurance would be a bigger issue ?

There are approx 9500 M140 registered and about 6.5k M135 according to how many left.

Write off rates seem below average (about 1.15% annually). Perhaps they are increasing.
M135i 3 door, auto, mineral grey/oyster - black, bus nav, black panel, adaptive, driver comfort. Arrived 24th June 2014.

Well done on the website Arnie, looks really useful. I notice my old Focus ST is listed as a salvage from Jul 2015 which is a shame!! (PF07XOO)

I'm interested from a technical viewpoint, does it link into a live salvage database or do you just update your own database everyday with salvage records and grow it that way? I have a customer that does a similar thing with classic auctions.

I'm a web designer/developer and have spent over 20 years writing my own backend systems like yours so if you need any tech help ever just DM me. :)
