I’ve got a late 2016 M140 should I be expecting a call or letter from BMW, or am I outside the date range of cars to be updated?

My car had its first service at the end of September 2018 and I’m not aware of any updates taking place then.

why worry keep it as it is i am why fix what aint broke so to speak ,,look at all the hassle some people are are having with the update ,at the end of the day as one of the members said its not a safety recall or anything .(its a way of trying to calm emissions sat behind a smoke screen)

Just for info folks, I spoke to a BMW specialist coding guy who codes cars for a living and I was surprised at just how many updates there are. I only purchased my car brand new in Sept 18 and since then there has been at least 4 updates for the M140. Apparently the dealers tend not to pass all these on as it would take too much time to recall a car every time there is an update. There have been no negative reviews on his media site with all the updates he has carried out, and tbf most folk seem happy with the update on here. I guess there's always things that can differ on some cars?
Current - 2018 (Sept build) M140i Shadow. Auto. Melbourne Red, heated black with blue stitching, adaptive suspension, 19" 405m's.

Gone - 2015 M135i Estoril Blue + MPE exhaust

Just got my M140i shadow 67 plate back from the dealers today after 10 days in a 320d . Had some work done under warranty so didn’t push it to hard today . updated and I have to say in the wet conditions today I found the car much better and easier put the power down . Doesn’t feel as aggressive in sport but still shifts and comfort seems a bit comfier than it was lol, soon get bored and switch to sport! Didn’t try sport plus but so far it seems fine to me . Think you just need to give it a bit more right foot :D
Lost all my saved stations etc and had to delete my car from my iPhone then find it again as it wouldn’t connect .
Does feel different for sure but I’m happy with it so far .

My September 17 m240i manual went in yesterday for first service and also had the update. Only one return trip to work so far, but no change in noise from the exhaust, and engine seems slightly smoother but that could just be the oil change. Mpg seems lower than before but need to judge that over a few more journeys. Also keen to see whether the over rev issue on upshifts have gone, will test it properly this weekend

Been following this thread with interest.

My June 2017 m240i (manual) went into the dealers this week for some work and amongst other things this software update. Have driven it a couple of times including including a bit of a trash the other night and can’t honestly say I’ve noticed any detrimental behaviour, if anything it seems in rude health. Pops and bangs in sports/sports + still present...

The only thing I’ve not noticed is whether it’s cured the over-rev on gear change issue as I’ve learnt to drive around it (slightly earlier gear changes, not bashing into the redline etc), going out later so will try and recreate it and see if that’s gone. 🤞

I have a late 66 plate M140 auto - not heard anything from the dealer - should I contact them for the update?

I'm not sure what software I'm running but my M140 is a November 18 build, for me it's the perfect drive, very smooth, hardly any wheel spin, and not that loud, it’s much more refined than the July 17 M240 I had, and it rides a lot better, nothing like as much bouncing around, probably doesn’t feel as sporty but then I bought it as a GT car rather than a hot hatch

so still not fixed. BMW says there is not a single official complaint lodged with BMW in Europe and I am taking it further. Firstly am getting an m140 pre-update transferred over for a day or two comparisons. the dealer confirmed changes but BMW will not release to them what.

had another update and setting changed in the meantime and now have baby farts and crackles fromorignal... o.k. might be able to live with but missing the crackle...

MPG (not a care with this car when bought) has gone down (so runs a lot more expensive) 13%-15% on last two full tanks of petrol ?

comfort coasting still there.

revs hanging high in sports... let go of the accelerator at 6000rpm and it will hang there and push the car for around 4 - 6 second before doing anything with the gears. accelerate again and it is irratic

lack of power on the first 30-40% of throttle and then you get whiplashed and on wet you nearly loose the car.

adaptive suspension has been confirmed as being included with this update by dealer! car is softer and "comfortable" but lacks a lot of stability as a result.

a few more points like this but I am very very very precise on the drive of my car...
